Graduating: affording the move

Hi everyone,

I'm graduating in August (yay!), however, right now I live on campus and I'm especially worried about how I am going to pay to move into an apartment, especially with all of the fees, like first/last month's rent, security deposit, etc.

I don't understand how new graduates out of college can afford these things? I could probably save at the most about $700 by July (because I receive VA dependent benefits), but that will not cover much.

Any advice? I'm starting to get worried because I can't move in with my parents and they have less money than I do!

How do people afford these things when they're in between everything?

Thanks.

Some suggestions.

Save, Save, Save :)

Look for Roommates to share the financial burden?

Good Luck!

Oh, my gosh! Moonischasingme you sound just like me! I also leave on campus, but I graduate in June. I work as an assistant now, but I am VERY concerned about move cost. I leave in LA and believe me when I say it is expensive.

I also can't or don't want to move in with my parents, but that might be the only option until I settle into my new position...Oh my, why did everything have to start getting more expensive now that!

Try renting a room in someone's house for the short term. You can try craigslist or roommates.com. You could probably find something cheap with utilities and a low security deposit. Live there for a few months and save every dollar until you can get an apartment.

Well, my mom is now going to turn her dining room into a bedroom, so this way, instead of paying almost $2,000 for the dorm, I will get the difference of my federal loan and be able to save more until I can settle in with my job.:yeah:

I used my sign-on bonus to relocate. If that's not an option, I would look for roommates or subleases that might fit your budget. No matter what...save, save, save! It seems like moving is always more expensive than you planned.
