Graduate nurse from Illinois moving to Texas

Published

Hello Everybody,

I'm a graduate nurse from Illinois looking to move to Texas in a couple of months. What would be the steps I take to move my Illinois license to Texas? Any help would be appreciated! Thanks

I would recommend starting this process ASAP as Illinois is extremely slow with licensing issues. I moved to Illinois with a Missouri license, and turned in my paperwork for endorsement on the fifth of July. I did not receive my license from the state until the 23rd of September. I'm not sure what all the state has to do on their part since you are actually leaving Illinois, but it would stink to have it held up due to the glacial pace of the Illinois department of professional regulation, or whatever the heck they're called.

You will get far more reliable information from the Texas Board of Nursing than a generic international student forum on a random Internet site. Best of luck.

I agree with not.done.yet, the link that I posted goes straight to that info on the Texas Board of Nursing website. Also, Texas is a compact state (hopefully mores states will join). That means that if you have a license in one of those states, there are about 24 states that you can work as a nurse within without having to change your license. Unfortunately Illinois is not one of them.
