GPC graduates!!!

Hi I am new to the scene and I will be graduating GPC in May 2009.....just wondering if there are any GPC grads out there and was it difficult to find a job after school?

Thanks!!!:nuke:

I had no problems finding a job when I graduated in 06. i work at emory and had the choice of several different floors. But Emory didn't hire any new grads this year unless they were part of the scholarship program. I would say apply early if you want a particular specialty and don't wait until you graduate.

Just wondering, in your opinion how many people are still in the program from the start? I'm a little worried about the amount of people they accept into the program verse the amount that take the NCLEX. Any info would be great

Thanks

I started in the Spring of 2008 and we started out with 50 people and we now have about 38 left. We have combined with the Fall of 2007 class and if everyone does great about 130 people will be graduating in May 2009. I think that is great and GPC has come a long way. If there are any other questions feel free to PM me!!!

I'm glad to hear that the numbers are coming up and see it as a sign of GPC's program becoming better than it has in the past. It is my first choice due to cost and location. My biggest problem is that I will not be able to start until spring of 2010 due to my A&P classes being too old. I also have to take micro and with three classes to take in three semesters I better do very well in those classes. If I do make A's in these classes my GPA will be up to about 3.5. Do you think that is competitive enough to get in?

Thanks

I was going to PM you but it wouldn't let me.

Good to see things are looking up in the program.

I am not sure about the GPA...but a 3.5 sounds pretty good. From what I remember they weight their decision heavily on the science classes and the NET exam. So if you do well on those than you should be okay. Good luck to you!!!:nuke:

Things at GPC are definitely looking up. Our class (graduating Spring 2010) started at Clarkston with 89 students and we have 80 left. Personally, I haven't made below an 84 on any exam, and I've also managed to squeak out a few A's. Granted I'm only in my 1st semester, but I'll be getting a high B in the course.

I don't think it's nearly as hard as people say it is. I think the majority of people complaining are ex students, but I could be wrong. This is a very good program and very competitive. Most people I have spoken to got in with a 3.0 gpa and above. Overall, my GPC experience has been very good. The staff are very helpful and there is now a tutorial lab for nursing students. Faculty are willing to meet outside of class to help students who are struggling.

Nursing school anywhere is tough. Let's face it. But this is a terrific program with an NCLEX passage rate unmatched anywhere in the state of Georgia.

I just get so tired of reading negative posts about GPC. Maybe things were different in the past, but they're not that way now. Those who dropped out in Fundamentals probably would not have made it through nursing school, and some dropped out because they just didn't like it. Me? I'm enjoying the ride while I can because I know it will get tough at some point.

Well that is good to hear. Keep us posted throughout the program if you can find some time. GPC is the only school that is convenient for me to attend.

Random question: When you take the NET do you get to use paper and pencil or is everything in your head?

They supply paper and pencils. No calculators.

I graduated in 2007 from GPC, no problem at all getting a job :) In your last semester of school towards the end, they will discuss interview tips etc for job seeking....my advice though is dont wait for that class! In your last semester go ahead and do a resume (do a google search for new nurse resume or something and look at examples of how to set it up)-you would want to include things like where you did what clinical rotation, when you will take the NCLEX etc.

If you will be a May graduate, remember that ALOT of other nursing schools will graduate also...so get a jump on the game :)

I just found out I passed my 3rd semester at GPC and I was wondering if any grads out there could tell me what to expect for my 4th semester?
