Published

im planning on becoming a registered nurse but my gpa is low , its a 2.9 and i finish all my prerequisite .. so at seminole state college it have two programs the a.s. generic program or the b.s.n. concurrent program .. should i do the a.s. generic program which the gpa requirements is a 2.50 or higher , then after i finish that degree I can continue and get my bachelor degree? or try to take a risk and take 1 class that will bring my gpa to 3.0 and apply for the b.s.n. concurrent program which their gpa requirement is 3.0 or higher? Also, i have not taken the teas test yet , i plan on taking it by the middle of october . Im planning on achieving on getting a 85 or higher ... Has anybody got in with a low gpa and a high teas?

Are there any science classes you can retake?

Just be aware that '2.5 or higher' means than many, many candidates will have 4.0 or close. I would imagine that very few sub-3.0 candidates have a legitimate shot at entry to the program. I would see about re-taking some sciences for As as the above poster suggested.

No ..unfortunately ..once I take a class and pass with a "C ". I can not retake the class and replace it with a higher grade. I was planning on taking some classes over again because I was not focus on the classes I took in the passed (personal issues). But the counselor said I can retake the classes but they wont count that because a "c" is consider a passing grade which is ludicrous to me.

Since Florida doesn't allow grade retakes I'd go in and talk to the coordinators and see what they recommend.

Well, if your planning on getting an 85.......

Why did you not plan on a better GPA? Seriously? I doubt many people plan on a subpar GPA when they go to school.

Stop planning on grades. Make them happen.

I doubt she was "planning" to have the gpa she currrently has, regardless it's in the last, do what you have to in the present to get into nursing school

You need to find a way to raise your GPA significantly. The minimum GPA is the minimum to apply. The people that are accepted will have a 3.5 or greater. There are far more people applying then there are slots. You will be competing against people with far higher GPAs.

I was not planning on having a lower GPA ..that was not my attentions at all ..the first year and half was extremely rough path (3 close family died , taking care of my mom who was sick, and other situations ) and that effected my GPA tremendously ..my GPA was actually way lower then 2.9 which is embarrass to say but the remaining of my Prerequiste I got all A's and 2 B's which put me at a 2.9 now because i want to achieve my goals and become a nurse.

Here's what I would do. Make a spreadsheet comparing both programs and include things like time to complete (factoring in going back to get your bsn after your ADN for that option), cost, competitiveness of program, teas or no teas, commute time, etc. In the end you'll get a bsn either way. The path to getting there is the question right now. Keep in mind also that if you go the ADN route, you may be able to get a job sooner getting some experience. Rn-bsn programs can be online and much more flexible which also may appeal to you.

Also, about the gpa: is this your cumulative gpa or pre requisite gpa? One school may ask for one over the other. Be sure you know what each program is asking for. Your gpa may really only count with certain classes which may put you in a better spot than you think!
