Time line for getting into Army Reserves as an ADN nurse

Can anyone please tell me approximately how long it actually takes to get into the US Army Reserves? I am 1 year away from finishing my ADN program and I would like to begin the application process before I finish school.

Also, when I was younger, about 20 years ago, I got into some legal trouble. Consequently, I know that I will need a waiver, if the Army decides to let me in because of the trouble I got into. Nothing major, just small stuff, but it still resulted in criminal convictions.

Congratulations! Have you decided what you are going to do afterward? Will you take a bonus or tuition reimbursment? I wish you the best of luck. I am also an LPN working for my RN then BSN.

I will probably take the bonus cause TA will pay for the classes and Financial Aid will assist with books! I have been eye-ballin the Army Physician Assistant program as well. I need one prereq (chemistry). With this program you graduate with a Master's in PA in 24 months.

Hello again runnin mom,

I finally finished my application and sent it in. All the other paperwork was sent in previously. I hope I don't find out something is missing. Already had physical in November. Just waiting on pins and needles to find out if I get commissioned or not. I plan on calling my recruiter tomorrow to see if she has done anything with my paperwork or is it just sitting on her desk. Oh yeah, take care of that thumb!! lol !! Please pray for me! P.S. got to see my son for a whole week before he had to go back to his base!

:yeah: I was just accepted into an RN transition program where it takes 12 months to complete your ADN if you are already an LVN/LPN. I spoke to an Army Medical Recruiter and he told me to submit my paperwork starting 6 months BEFORE I graduate RN school for Commissioning. I am currently a 68WM6 in the Army Reserves (E-5).

Good luck cursed! I am also seeking admission into an LPN to ASN program here in Indiana. I am working on my pre-requisites for my BSN through Indiana State University's distance program. How do you like army life as an E-5? My wife wants me to get my ASN then enlist. I told her that I would be general enlisted if I go active duty. I am not sure what my rank would be. I really want to comission and not go active with ASN. I don't think that I would get the chance to finish schooling for BSN. Well, again best of luck to you!

so you're boarding this month then?????? well, lets hope it all goes good and you get a thumbs up!!!!! I'm glad your son is doing ok. Thumb is ok now, I'm just waiting on orders so I can start getting to drill!

Lets hope all is in order and my recruiter doesn't sit on my paperwork. She told me to send everything to her first. Haven't been able to get in touch with her, working odd shifts and can't find time yet. Did your recruiter let you know when everything was sent in? Did yu send it to them first? It seems everyone has a different story. Glad thumb is good as new! Just go easy!! I think I,m going to start on some protonics for my ulcers until I hear!! Let me know whats happening with you. What was being commisioned like? Go to Texas yet for OBLS? Can't wait to hear how its all going. Someone said to me the other day "you can't join the service!! You're married" What???? Her hero must be Harriet Nelson!

I love life as an E-5 Army Sergeant! You can Commission in the Army Reserves with an ADN as 2nd LT. If you go Enlisted you will be a 68WM6. The 68W identifies you as a Combat Medic. The M6 identifies you as an LPN or RN enlisted.

Please note that a 68WM6 is not and does not function as an RN. A 68WM6 is a licensed practical nurse and yes is enlisted.

The only MOS that functions as a nurse is the 66 series and is a commissioned officer.

Oh...I was just at BAMC in July 2008 and as LPN's we were scheduled and worked in ICU and functioned as a nurse. I thought LPN's were nurses. I have battle buddies who are deployed to Germany as 68WM6 and work in hospitals and function as nurses. When they combined the medic and practical nurse courses it was to give the military more bodies to choose from to function as medics seeing as M6's can function as a line medic as well as a hospital nurse. Wow.. things change quickly in the military!!! I can't seem to keep up! I did spend time next to a BSN who received his LPN in the Army, got out, recieved his ADN and when he came back in Active Duty, they still gave him 68WM6. He has completed his BSN and put in a packet for officer. He was told he had to have a BSN on AD side to commission unlike the Reserves where you can commission as an ADN. Go figure!! Please keep me informed!!
