Letter of motivation and intent examples

I'm looking for examples of the letter of intent and motivation required for a USA Reserve commision.

Hi. Congratulations on thinking of enlisting! I am surprised that your recruiter did not give you a bunch of paperwork that needs to be filled out, and among that bunch might be some "letters of Intent" examples.

In my case I stated that my son is a member of the 127th MP Company stationed in Germany. For the past ten months he was down range helping the new Iraqi Police become a stronger, independent entity when, after being exposed to the blast of a strong IED he became hypoxic and c/o of dyspenia. He was intubated in the field and transported to Landstuhl Regional Medical Center (LRMC) where he remained in a medically induced coma on FiO2 100% and Peep of 30. I stated that "...despite all my years of education and of being a critical care nurse for almost 30 years...that all took a backseat, I was not prepared for how he would look, nor his prognosis"

I further stated that I would have "lost it completely" if not for the professional nursing staff at LRMC. "I have so much respect and admiration for the nurses who are with the Army Nurse Corps and for the Air Force Nurses" who were at his bedside.

I wrote that "I wished every nursing student would aspire to become like those nurses I met...", and then I said if my son Matthew lived "I would like to dedicate my nursing skills, experience, and education where I know they would be utilized and appreciated. I want to work alongside nurses who are confident in their knowledge base and willing to accept newer nursing theories; nurses that are as strong a patient advocate as I am; nurses who welcome working collaboratively with the medical staff; nurses who appreciate each other and the different life experience each brings with them. I want to give back to the United States by joining the Army Nurse Corps."

I realize that I can be VERY long winded (smile) but....My son lived! My age waiver was accepted, I passed all my physicals and consults (old bike injury to patella) and I signed my contract. I expect to be going down to Fort Sam this January for OCT.

Ma'am, I'm very touched by your story. I have no doubt the Director of Health Services Directorate of the US Army Recruiting Command took great pleasure congratulating you on your recommended appointment [btw, officers do not enlist] as a commissioned officer in the US AMEDD [united States Army Medical Department]. Are you a member of the AC [Active Component], or RC [Reserve Component]? If you have any questions about your OBC coming up in Jan 06 here is a must see website , plus I'd be happy to answer any of your questions, too.

I'm also relieved & happy to read your Soldier son is alive. Your son is a true hero, and I thank him for his military service!

Your Army Health Care Recruiter should have advised you in regards to your Statement of Interest and Motivation. Good luck in your application for appointment as a commissioned officer in the Army Nurse Corps. If you have any questions I'd be happy to answer, or at least share my thoughts with you.
