Hello everyone! I am planning to join the air force as soon as I have my bsn. I talked to the recruiter and he said my first assigment would be here in the States. I would love to go to Germany if it possible. I guess my question is that is that possible to go overseas right after school or not? Thanks for any info!

Depends, after training they will ask your top 3 choices of places to go but they basically put you where they want. Just be careful with recruiters because they tend to lie. Rememer you are in a spot to negotiate. They want to sign you up. Try to negotiate a duty station in Germany if you can. Whatever happens, make sure you get it in writing and don't rely on their promises.

yes be very careful...they let u fill out what they call a "dream sheet". hardly anyone gets what they pick on those sheets. do not believe the recruiters b/c they will lie up and down to get u to join...no matter how honest and nice they seem...my husband is in the air force so i have dealt with this all first hand....if u have any questions feel free to ask me...b/c between me and my husband we can tell u the TRUE answers that the recruiters won't tell u...i am not saying the air force is bad at all, u just have to learn the way things go and ignore what recruiters say

My SIL is in the AF...every place on her 1st dream sheet out of school was stateside. She ended up in Germany!!! Loved it there. Has been in 8 yrs. now and never come back to the states...was stationed in Germany, Korea, Turkey, Guam and to Belgium next.

Good luck.

I am an Army Healthcare Recruiter. I do not lie. the Airforce recruiters don't have to. They have people knocking down their door to join. As stated below you are in a position to negotiate a little the Airforce does not need nurses as bad as the Army so they may not allow you to go overseas. In the army you can go wherever you want as long as they have a post there. You will find outyour assignment before you sign your commission. I do not know what the airbase is in Germany. As for bonuses you should get a $15,000 bonus 4 year commitment. They currently do not have loan repayment like the ARMY of $30,000 3 year commitment because they do not need nurses the way we do.
