Dual Military Question

  1. Hey everyone,

If my husband is active duty, would it be extremely difficult or outright disadvantageous to commission into the Reserves or NG as a nurse if we have a child? I understand we would need a FCP.

    Thanks in advance!

Reserves or guard is definitely better than you going active duty. At least with guard/reserves you can always move with your husband during PCSs.

People definitely do what you are proposing; it is doable. However, there is definitely the possibility that you could both be deployed at the same time. Or your deployments could be completely asynchronous, such that you could go for over a year without seeing each other...i.e. you deploy just as he is coming home.

The FCP can be very difficult to deal with if you do not have a strong support system. We found it easier to deal with other service member friends than to count on any family on either side when it is family that one would expect to be helpful.
