Like it's been said a billion times before on here, COT is what you make of it. If you have a good attitude and don't freak out over everything, you will be fine. Your flight is going to make or break it for you as well. A good flight and a good flight commander are the two most important things you can have while you are there...besides a good attitude. Do what you need to do to survive while you are there....if you are tired and can't possibly think of doing anything else but sleeping yet you need to practive your briefing....go to bed. Ha. If you have any more specific questions, PM me.

Woul you be willing to write a blog while you're at COT? I saw an Army BOLC blog and it was really interesting. I'm interested in the Air Force as well. Please check out the Army Nursing BOLC blog, she wrote weekly, and maybe consider it. Thank you so much.

Thanks tee byrd for starting this thread! I am commissioning this Friday! I am super pumped and excited! My recruiter sent me a package for my commissioning and it included the bonus paperwork. I am still working on my push ups, sit ups, and running. I am hoping to be ready by August! I'm looking forward to meeting everyone :)

Does the bonus apply for both active and reserve? and do you have to have experience to get the bonus?

To be honest, i dont know about the reserve but I know that active duty does get an bonus. I dont know how long it will last due to the financial issues.

If you have your national cert such as CCRN or CEN, I would suggest rethinking getting the accession bonus. Accession bonus = no certification bonus for those first years. Right now CCRN and CEN have a $20,000 year bonus, which I can not get because I took the $30,000 accession (math = $50,000 not available to me.) After 4 years I can sign up for it though.

Hi Tee_byrd...I just want to learn more about the process you went through. I am a new grad and I talked to a medical Navy recruiter. I'm almost done with my Nurse Corps Application except for the reference but I just want to know how long did you have to wait before you found out that you got in? And also if there is a chance for a new grad like me, because I kept asking my recruiter what my chance is, but he keeps saying that it's better to have experience and that it's very competitive. For a new grad I guess my best shot is my GPA, which I have above 3.5 ...I mean I don't want to get my hopes up that I would get picked, but I just want to know if the military even considers new grad, and if they do, how many do you think do they pick every fiscal year. Were you a new grad as well?

MID, I thought the ISP for CCRN was not available to newbies but to those who re-up.

Also when you accept the ISP it can delay any AFIT applications. there have been quite a few nurses that could not apply for AFIT cause they took the ISP.

Hey everyone! Glad I found this thread. Getting so excited about COT. Does anyone know what the daily exercise entails. I found the fitness charts to pass the fitness test, but on the COT website it says something about being able to run a 5 K without stopping. Is that the morning job or something? What else do we do besides jog and march everyday?

you will not be jogging and marching everyday. Not very much PT at all at COT. The structured PT they have is not that good. there are maybe 4 times when you run and you will be given two PFTs. Our 5K was in the early morning and was not bad. Marching happens more in week one and maybe some in the beginning of week two (as well as graduation practice)

Pay no attention to the sample schedule on the OTS site - it is a joke and every class that has been through COT has complained about the lack of PT, but the truth is there is just not enough time. You can hit the gym in the evening and once you get privs you can go to the track.

COT is not hard, not difficult and if you can manage to have fun and find a way to enjoy the process you will have a blast!
