Army Active Duty FY18

Hi all!

Anyone else complete a packet for the upcoming boards FY18 for Army Active Duty? My packet has been board approved and now it's just wait and see!

I'm applying as an ER nurse. I have a few years experience at a level 1 trauma center and a few board certifications. No prior military experience. I've been working on my packet for almost 6 months!

I'd like to hear what everyone else's experiences have been!

I have been working on my packet since June 2017. Recruiter informed me in October '17 I was selected off the OML as 66S (critical care nurse). I have been in the Army Reserve for 14 years (E-6 in a transportation unit) and a nurse for almost 3 years. It took 6 months just for the reserves to release me from my enlisted contract (headache!). I am currently waiting on my scroll so I can commission. If there is one thing to be learned in the military, it is "Hurry up and wait!" Best of luck to everyone in the same wait!

Awesome. Hope you are able to commission soon! I've heard it's a lengthy process to be released from the Reserves. I finally received orders recently and I am headed to PreBOLC in February!

I heard good news earlier this month, too. I was selected for 66S, now scrolling waiting for my orders. Pretty excited, congratulations to all.

Hello! I am hoping y'all can give me some information. I have searched and searched and can't find much about active duty on the internet. I was just informed yesterday that I have been "unofficially selected" for 66H. My recruiter said that I was pending approval from congress/secretary of defense. How long after hearing that you were unofficially selected did you hear anything else? Such as duty station, BOLC date. Also, how far away should I expect to head to BOLC? Trying to plan my life up until I go. Thank you so much for any input. Also, congratulations to you all!

Also, I have seen a lot of people use the word scrolling? Is this for reserves? Or Both AD and reserves? And what does it mean e exactly?

I was selected for 66T back in the Oct boards, only 1 of 2 selected, and I am also still waiting to be scrolled. That term basically means that you have to be sent through the SECDEF to be approved, as all Officers are, by Congress and the President. Now they aren't "approving" you by looking over your packet again, they just need to pencil whip an official signature on the scroll of potential officers, this is public access and you can look up the scrolls that Congress has signed off--the approval or disapproval process has already happened with your packet and the selection board. But this can take some time. Hope to see you in BOLC!

As far as BOLC is concerned, it will be in San Antonio, TX for all of AMEDD. The classes start at specific dates and must align with your Oath date, orders for DCC, which you will take before BOLC, and orders for your unit. You will not have orders cut until you take your Oath of Office and officially get commissioned, again, pending the scroll from SECDEF. I'm in this boat with you...I have a manager ED job, a wife with two kids, a house, tons of household goods, and a billion other things to do that are riding on these future orders...my life is on PAUSE. Still getting ready to sell the house and move our stuff, just need some more fixes and upgrades.

Thank you so much for a detailed explanation! Wow! You have way more going on than I do. I would be extremely anxious if I were in your situation. Hopefully they get back to you ASAP. Congratulations on being 1 out of 2. That's an accoplishment. I graduated in May, worked for 4 months, moved to Germany and can't get a job because of the lack of experience. I'm just hoping to hurry up and put this knowledge to use before I forget it all. It appears that someone on this thread found out they were accepted and left four months later? I am just super antsy about hearing about where my duty station will be. I am praying for Landstuhl since my husband is stationed at Baumholder. We have a daughter so I really and not sure what our plan would be if I were to get a different place. I'm rather confident that it will all work out. Do you know much about that process? Is it like normal military orders. They send you orders with your duty station? Some people have made it seem that you actually talk with HRC and kind of pick where you go?Is DCC the Pre-BOLC? I was enlisted AD for 3.5 year. I got out in 2013. Do you know if I will have to go to the pre-BOLC? The Oath of Office, where does this take place? The recruiting station? Or MEPS? Will I go through MEPS? Or Will I basically just show up to the school? So sorry for all of the questions. I barely know anything about this process and I don't want to drive my recruiter crazy. If you don't feel like answering my 800 questions no worries :) I am just excited and anxious

Ok, I'll try to answer the best I can. I may not be the best source for Officer specific questions as my experience is from years previous as Enlisted, but I have a fairly good idea of how the Army works, and my recruiter is excellent at letting me know what's going on.

I have no information on what the orders will be, but I expect standard military orders with information on going to DCC, BOLC, and your active duty station. I'm fairly certain that the DCC and BOLC will be treated as TDY and therefore the orders should reflect that.

I can't speak to if you talk to your Branch Manager about where you want to go, I hope some other who have experience with this can speak up. But I've heard you do.

Will you have to go to DCC? I'm saying yes, even with us having prior military service they are telling us to go. I see it is a bonus... Easy and cheap TDY to get you "back in the saddle again" if you know what I mean. Cake walk.

You should be doing your Commissioning ceremony wherever your recruiter tells you... Probably at MEPS, but I've heard of them doing the ceremony in people's homes in their living rooms while they wear civies. That's very silly to me and is not fitting for the importance of the event. I think it should be done in a military facility in uniform.

You say you haven't gone to MEPS yet? Have you been medically cleared? If you haven't been medically cleared then your packet hasn't been submitted yet and you will have to wait until next board in Oct '18. But you also said you were selected, so I'm a bit confused. Anyway, hope that helped a little. God bless.

Hi everyone. Was selected for 66T back in November for active army. Was wondering if there was anyone else still waiting for there scrolls to come back. And if you've already commissioned how long did it take you. How was the OPAT test? Thanks

Well just found out this morning from my requiter that my scroll is in. Now I just have to get my commissioning, oath and OPAT done and hopefully I'll get some orders soon. Anyone else potentially looking at the june 10th DCC?

Hey all, I am able to commission this Monday. My recruiter said probably August for BOLC. Quick question. Has everyone been pretty much been told that we won't know where our first duty station is until BOLC?
