Any bets on how many things the movers break?

  1. As I sit here waiting for the movers.... I am contemplating how many things the movers will break this time. I only had couple of small things broken last time. Although, one our cheap metal-WalMart desks looked like it had been playing twister on the truck from the last move.

We are doing door to door move this time. So I am betting about 2 things get broken. By the way I am PCS'ng from Mississippi to Maryland.

    Any Bets????

My answer would depend on the moving company. We've had wonderful experiences with Allied, and less than satisfactory outcomes with most of the other major movers.

Good luck to you. I hope that you and your goods arrive safely!

    Wtbcrna,
Since I have not had the pleasure yet my guess is not worthy.

My fingers are crossed for you that all goes well.

Not sure how this will work for me soon but, will "share the joy" when it happens.

Will you be in Maryland for your entire CRNA? Good luck and CONGRATULATIONS!! about it.

    Thanks Gen,

There are 3 clinical sites for us....Travis AFB/CA, Wright Patterson AFB, and for now Bethesda Naval hospital in Md (temporary for the next couple years). So we might get to stay, but we won't find out until sometime in the Fall semester.

We are going try really hard to stay. This will be my oldest daughter's junior and senior year coming up.

I'll say 3 just because "3 is the magic number". We where lucky and only had one thing semi broken. My husband was able to fix it. We did get some new 'friends" with the move. Since our stuff was in storage here for a month, we had a lot of silver fish in our house when our stuff got here. I hate those things. We didn't have them in TN. We had the house sprayed from them once already; but we still see some every now and then. So we have to call the bug guy again!
I'm not looking forward to moving OCONUS. I get stressed out about that one just thinking about it; and thats 2 yrs away!

One of the best things to do is bomb your house for bugs about a week before the movers get there. That way the insecticide will last for about a month to 6wks on your household goods. It will help keep the bugs out of your stuff.

Oh boy, this gets me thinking.

In my current apartment building, which is a hisotrical building on a relatively "posh" neighborhood and has a "historical" restaurant attached, they spray regularly.

HOWEVER, the first time I saw a fatty THUMBSIZED cochroach I nearly flipped!

Since I grew up living in a house I'd never seen cockroaches until my mid twenties and even then they were skinny little things. Wait, I worked as a waitress in my teens and did see the skinny version then once too.

Yet, these bad wamma jammas here, phew. I've lived in this building two years and have only a live one in my apartment twice and they were obviously on the downside of life and moving really slowly.

Knowing that Texas is warmer than Chicago...I anticipate a new variety of bugs. Oh boy.
Gen-will bomb the current apartment upon leaving, thanks for the hint

    Gen,

You will have to tell me what you think of the scorpions in Texas when you first see one...lol. There are all sorts of critters at Camp Bullis where you will be doing some of your training.

Fire Ants are by far the worst!!! You will definitively turn into impromtu stripper if you accidentally step in a big pile of fire ants.... I lived in Texas most of my life never been stung by a scorpion, but gotten stung by fire ants lots of times. Those little buggers hurt.

I didn't know San Antonio had tarantulas though... I didn't think it was far enough west. Here is couple of links just to make your day....lol

    Thanks for the links.

I've been advised by another cat owner that the best thing to do is to put ammonia on a cotton ball to dab at bites from fire ants. Its supposed to neutralize it instantly. Makes me figure that fire ant venom is acidic. edit: from the link with the bitten leg I read that htey are alkalai! Oh boy, I'd better make sure to tuck my pants into my boots very WELL. I do not want to play sudden stripper, (knock on wood).

I actually never hire a moving company.

I always rent a truck, two and pay a friend to drive it if necessary. Moving companies will actually supply the labor to load without driving it to it's next destination. Then when we get where we are going, we hire the labor to load off.

That way your things never leave your sight.
