I had a quick question for anyone who has completed or currently enrolled in the army nurse candidate program.

Does the program cover tuition as well or is it just a stipend?

I don't believe it covers tuition... when I was considering applying for it, the program paid a $10,000 sign-on bonus and the monthly stipend.

Correct. Now if you are able to go the ROTC route, I believe you can get the tuition AND stipend (not sure how much).

ah i see. I that sucks because my GI bill will be depleted by the time i finish this adn program i am in. the way they have it set up takes 3.5 years!. oh well I only have 4 nursing classes to go before i can start my bsn. problem is i can only take one class at a time in this program and im looking for a way to finance my education so i can return to active duty. theres also no ROTC program here :(

Sorry to hear that. Another six months and you could have had your BSN finished.

Just for clarification, I'm currently working on my ANCP packet, and I read somewhere that you only get the whole lump sum of$10,000 plus $1,000 monthly stipend goes into effect if you have one year left to complete your BSN

For people like me, once they hit their 2 year mark, they give you the $5,000 upfront, then the $1,000 monthly and then once you graduate and pass the NCLEX, they give you the remaining $5,000,also my recruiter had told me that the ANCP program is closed until Fiscal Year 2011-(October of this year) and I wanted to confirm that statement..

Also as far as i understand it the ANCP will not pay for your tuition, However I've been hearing that once your Chapter 30 benefits are exhausted you can apply for the Post 911 (Chapter 33) and you will be able to have 12 months of that, this changes for each individual, for example I have six months of Chapter 30 left, my sixth month mark will be September of this year, for each month I'm on Chapter 30, my g.i bill is about 2,000 because I had The College Fund and I opted to do the $600 buy-up, the one downside is tuition and books are out of my pocket, just a tip for you if you haven't already make sure you fill out a Fasfa, not sure about your school, but at my school, as long as your EFC is below 5,000, they offer grants, not sure how much I will qualify for this upcoming fall,

If your not aware of it also for an example, since my g.i bill will run out in September, I still have October, November,and December left so the VA extends out the g.i bill to cover the rest of the semester. Also I was told to go ahead and apply in January 2011 for the Chapter 33, they did say that from the 12 months of the Post 911 they will subtract the months that had to extend Chapter 30, so in my case they would subtract 12-3 which would equal 9 months of Chapter 33, on the down side, the stipend for me goes from 2,000 down to approximately 900 a month, however since I got out in August 2004, I'm elgible for 90 percent tuition, 90 percent books, hope this helps a bit, a bit long-winded, but these are questions that I had at one point and figured you would have them as well..

I used the ancp. I applied going into nursing school. Received 5000 at the begininng of the fall semester, 1000 a month even during the summer bc i went full time, then received another 5000 at the beginning of the fall semester of my last year. So in all received money for 22 months to total 32,000 (i did not have to wait and take the nclex or graduate to receive any money). I was obligated for 5 years of active duty. I think its a great program. It does exclude you from applying for the loan replayment thru the military once you come on active duty. Dont forget about the perkins loans. As a nurse you do not have to pay them back, you just have to request cancelation every year for 5 years. Its a great way to get free money toward your education.

RMeforlife, I was wondering..I eventually want to be a CRNA, and wanted to find out which army bases would be the best to get really good acute care experience? Please list your top five choices and why? Thanks in Advance, Angela

Madigan hospital in WA

Bamc in TX

walter reed in DC

most likely the one at ft hood

and of course FT Bragg, NC

reason: well bamc is at ft sam houston, the headquaters of army medicine, i has one the the worlds most advance burn units.

i know in my experience alot of critical care patients where flown to bamc. walter reed is a hospital in dc that sees alot of government patients. and the others are on combat unit posts. ft hood being the bigger post. and btw, ft lewis, WA(Madigan) is the most stateside requested post in the army. but pretty much any army hospital can provide acute care experience. i was stationed in the middle of nowhere in utah and i got lots of acute care experience in our little clinic. got acls and pals and i was only an emt-b
