In an article in todays Los Angeles Times in the California section Ahnold tells a group of supporters during an annual conference on women to "pay no attention to those voices over there", referring to a group of nurses who were protesting his freeze on the staffing ratio law. "They are the special interests, and you know what I mean. The special interests in Sacramento don't like me because I am always KICKING THEIR BUTTS!!" Anyone care to comment on this? Sorry I am unable to cut and paste the article but the latimes has a website: http://www.latimes.com if anyone would like to view the article called "Cheers and Jeers Greet Gov."

Sickening. The only difference between Arnold and other politicians is that he speaks what he truely thinks AND GETS AWAY WITH IT! The response of people...they giggle, ha ha the govenator!
Among other things, he's a complete sexist and a liar.
Also, each time that commercial comes on that portrays a nurse saying "on behalf of nurses...I'd like to thank gov blah blah blah" I am deeply offended and very embarressed. I have to shut it off. I wonder if that woman is really a nurse? You know people are dumb enough to buy it though as it's a very "touching" commercial. It does nothing but promote lies. I wish someone would come out with a rebuttal to that commercial pointing out just what nursing means to outcomes.
Yes, I'm angry.

I am very upset about this. All the nurses in the country were inspired by the great victory in California concerning mandatory safe ratios, and in one instance "Ah-nold" takes it away. All that lobbying and public campaign work by the CNA.... has it now been undone?

Maybe he would pay attention if each and every nurse just calls in sick on say ah .... anyway you get the point . How may thousand nurses are in CA? All of them not showing up for work for a day or two would make him, the hospital administators and the public in general pay attention. An even bigger statement would be if each and every nurse in the whole country just not work for a day or two. But alas it will never happen.

He is so incredibly stupid. He called nurses "special interest." Yet when HCA stood up to decry the nurses actions it was acceptable? Who has more money to give him? Obviously HCA.
'The women's conference was heavily funded by several corporations and groups that do business with the state, including oil company BP, Allstate, Citigroup and Bank of America.'
Nurses...special interest....riiiight.
'"Welcome to the estrogen festival! The largest estrogen gathering in the country," said actress Jamie Lee Curtis, who called the governor her friend and mentor and his wife Maria Shriver her girlfriend. Before Curtis' comments, another speaker had asked the women to hug each other.'
ARGH!
Oprah Winfrey was in attendance. She needs a couple of letters to let her know that this is not something to be dismissed. Wonder what she thinks? Or is she just as ignorant as the rest?
I've written my letter to Sacramento, copied it to the CNA. Been invited for an interview with the CNA magazine, and I plan to be proactive to extent I can.
This is complete bull.

Okay let me see if I am getting this right...at first I thought the bill he rejected would ratio out 1 nurse to 6 patients..but it was already 1 nurse to 6 patients and he rejected a bill to make it 1 nurse to 5 patients????
Okay I support my fellow nurses out there, but wow...it is 1 nurse to 8 patients here by law...to have 6 only would be great! Maybe he sees that it worked in other states...and that is why he rejected it??? Maybe we should focus on a National ratio and get everyone on the same page..that may help?!?!?! I mean, if other states have a larger ratio..go figure someone may do a bit of that "well if they can do it..so can we" especially someone that doesn't give a hoot?
What are the ratios in your state???..Oregon here, and this is what I have been told and had to endure when I worked in hospital...we had one per as many as 8 if the census was that high (yeah right, some nights (swing shift) I would have as many as 9 neurovasc/med surg!). I have heard it was the same in Washington state, but don't quote me on that.

To get a real insight into Arnold you have to read his book, titled "Arnold, portrait of a bodybuilder". I am not advocating buying his book but in his book he admits to and brags about being a master manipulator. He is very egotistical and very wealthy. In his book he talks a lot about how he learned to manipulate people to get what he wants.

Are you a nurse yet?
Nurseguy- didn't mean to jump on you but it doesn't work in any state. Visit the CNA website for the ratios in California:

I am not sure what you are saying to me. I merely was trying to tell what little bit I knew about Arnold as a person.

why would a SINGLE Californian here be a BIT surprised? From the frying pan to the fire.........
I am NOT surprised in the least, given the governor you have now. Best of luck to you....there is always the next election.

I think every nurse in this country was watching, hoping that the ratios would work in CA and would become nationwide. To call nurses "special intrests groups" is crazy...does that mean all his voters are too? Those are the people we are caring for. Glad it is you and not me but I was really looking forward to those ratios.
