Hi,

I recently got offered a school nurse position but this was a few weeks ago. Nothing has happened since. I followed up with HR and she said a decision hasn't been made yet. But this was last week. Is this a normal process? Is it because it has to get approval by the board? I know that the board has not met since I talked to HR. Thanks!

As compared to the real world...everything about public school administration is abnormal. Good luck! Keep us informed!

I was offered the job and then it took about a month until the school board met. I had to be "appointed" by the board, so it was normal for me. 🙂 No worries, it should be fine. If you are concerned, just give them a call and ask.

Congratulations!

generally, yes.  The final decision has to go through to the school board.  Generally, once you've been offered the job, the school board won't have any objections, but I can't say that as an absolute rule.  Your ext step is to wait it out for the next board meeting after which you should logically be called in to sign your contract.  Go to the school's website and take a look at when their next board meeting is.  Work sessions sometimes differ from meetings and may affect the hiring of staff.

After I got offered the job they told me exactly when the next board meeting was and the day after they approved it I was called to sign in my contract. If it was a a head district nurse that hired you I would follow up with that nurse. If not follow up with HR again asking them if they know what the hold up is.
