Got my contract in the mail..bad timing

Published

So I haven't signed it or sent it back because I have some questions. .. But it does say I need to register with and start using the UDS place. . However, I was just diagnosed with probable Shingles tOday ( probable because I have all the pain but the rash hasn't popped out yet) he gave me percs for the pain. I did show him the contract. .. while he was quite stingy with the meds. . At least he gave them to me. I am in SO MUCH PAIN!!!!!

but.. I don't know If I have to have him send that in to the board or not. . Since I dont have a signed contract yet. Thoughts? ?

Please excuse typos...im using a POS loaner phone while mine is being repaired.

Yeah you need to let them know ASAP.

I left a voice mail with my coordinator, but she's not very good at getting back to you. So what should I do? Have my doctor write a letter that he saw me, the diagnosis, And the scripts he wrote (valtrex and percs) and have him fax it to the coordinator? I already gave him a heads up that he might need to do that.

Depending on the state you are in if you need narcotic pain relief you have to send a copy of your prescription to your monitoring agency along with a note from your physician saying why the medication is needed and for how long. If you are still allowed to work they will take you off work while you are taking the medication and not be allowed to return to work until you can test clean. You might speak to your doctor about gabapentin or some other drug for neuro pain (but not Lyrica). Also oatmeal and baking soda baths are very comforting and won't cause a positive UDS.

Hppy

Hi, I too agree with the advice the others gave you about letting your monitor know. I had a terrible cold and went to UC to get permission to take Advil Cold & sinus (or something lime that) to help my nasal congestion. I had tried the saline spray but didn't get much relief from there. Anyhow, I explained my situation to the MD, who wrote a letter giving me permission to take some OTC meds, which he printed out and signed. I faxed it to my.monitor, and they were ok with that. I know it seems kind of silly to have to do that, but there's no need risking getting a false positive on a UDS. I would do the same for any medications prescribed to me also, especially narcotics.

Good luck to you and sorry you're having so much pain with the shingles.

Btw, I sent you PM

Take care.

Sorry stillrn for shingles...bummer....stress induced??? Naaaaahhh... Yea, notify the board stat. You will get used to having to notify them every time you pass wind. Gets easier. My probation monitor was tougher at first, but now knows me. Recently I went to the ED for an allergic reaction and got an Rx for Atirax for a few days. She had me email her a photo of my Rx bottle and I did send her a copy of the ED record....probably a HIPPA violation on myself, but I figure my butt belongs to the state board right now. My 2 cents: sign the contract and go out and start looking for your first job. I only had to work in a SNF 4 months until I got a very nice job in a unionized hospital. Go to meetings/groups with an open mind. I am finding near the end of my probation that this horror has redirected me, slowed me down and has hopefully made me a better person. We are survivors of one of the roughest things a nurse can experience in her career.....and yes try the Gabapentin, but titrate off it slowly...and oatmeal baths...... ((((((hugs))))))

Thanks for the advice. No.. no stress at all here.. lol. On top of all of my self inflicted hell... Im having a lot of problems with my 14 year old daughter. But I never thought i'd get SHINGLES.. wth... How StuPID!!!! At least I dont have to worry about waiting to go back to WORK my non-existent job....:roflmao: oh boy.. i crack myself up!!

I was thinking of asking him for Lyrica.... Why not Lyrica?? Does Gabepentin really work? I've always thought meds for neuro pain were just b.s. placebo's. I have a muscular/neuro disorder called BFS (Benign fasiculation syndrome) which sucks, but it causes me to react strangely to some things .. like anesthesia.. i've woken up in the middle of every surgery and I get super twitchy off and on. That has me bit worried about this nerve pain. The percs worked nicely tonight.. finally a little relief. I also bought a topical cream called Zostrix which burns and itches but decreases the sensitivity at least. lol... after a while anyway.

I will have the doctor fax the monitor tomorrow.

In good news..... I got approved for state insurance and foodshare. Which means i am getting the scripts and doctor appts for free.. yay. Also means that I was finally able to make my first AODA counseling appointment for this week. Im happy about that. Bad news... my unemployment is STILL pending investigation. Why dont they just say NO already. They are going to anyway.. :grumpy:

You know... as crazy as it sounds... this horrible stressful situation that I have put myself in.. is honestly so much LESS stressful than I was feeling at work in the last year.. I was nearing a breakdown and I really think if I had not been stopped when i was... with what i was doing (not perc's).. things would have gone very badly!!! Trying to see a glimmer of a silver lining... and right now.. thats it :)

I only had to work in a SNF 4 months

SNF?? Soupy nut flakes? Snotnosed nubby froghouse? Suave neat frenchwoman? Super nifty foghorn? Slutty numbchuck fondler?

I just have to complain out loud.. feel free to ignore... but I can not even believe how painful this is and I still haven't gotten the rash yet. I put in a call for gabepentin. .. cuz 1 perc q 8 just isn't cutting it. Waiting to hear back.

But my board monitor said I don't have to submit anything yet. I could have asked her more questions since I had get on the line. . But was just in too much pain. Ill have to just email her later.

Just living on my heating pad right now..ugh..

Skilled nursing facility but I like your suggestions better.

Well a big NO to the gabepentin. But instead ib get to be at the hospital at 8 am for contrast and then have a CT done. I Still have no rash. . But the pain is unreal. How dumb is my luck?!

You may want to rent a TENS unit.My boyfriend had Shingles and then post herpetic neuralgia and I gave him a TENS unit since I had two.It helped him more than the Norco and he actually used it for one full year.He kept it hooked up during his shift and tuned on for a 20 min treatment every few hrs. You can also just buy one. My chiropractor sold me one for $ 89.00 and you may be able to buy one on line but get a good one! Read the directions carefully because you need to place the electrodes a certain way and follow the time limits, It's very effective for this type of pain!
