..just wanted to share my "Flyin without Wings!" feelin, am still happy about it, even though it was a small thing!
Our ward manager is fair, but hard to please at times, but today, she told me that i had handled a situation so well, that she was proud of me, and "well Done!" OMG..knock me down with a feather stuff, praise from her is high praise indeed!
It was to do with a baby that I knew well, went on shift this am to find her struggling, labouring breathing etc...bit of a long story, but I knew she wasn't like that when I left her last pm. had to stand my ground with the Doc's, including the consultant, but by tonite when I went off, my babe is much more settled, breathin easier! Any how, the point of this tale is not the short background, as theres lots more to it, but rather the fact that being recognised for your skills, for being a good nurse by the people who evaluate you is so uplifting. It so often happens that the negatives are the only things that are picked up on, but to actually have someone say well done really makes you feel good! Wish it happened more often, but heres proof...it does occur!
the fact that she recognised progress in my practice by saying that .. " I remember 3 years ago, you would have said..OK Doctor" and just went along with them" made me happy with my own development.
OK guys, sorry to go on, I'm in no way trumpet blowing..just sharing a good and positive moment in my career, in our line of work... positivity doesn't happen often enough!
Have a great day!!

Good for you!! Isn't that the best feeling, not only knowing that you did something great, but actually being recognized for it!

I'm so happy for you!! Keep up the good work. It sounds like you are a great patient advocate and this is one of the most important things we can do as nurses!! Keep learning and growing, and give yourself a nice pat on the back!
