hi everyone,

just wanted to know direct from you guys working as rns how the job market is for someone with 4 yrs acute care experience. specifically for someone interested in working at an hca facility. im currently with hca here in tx, but parents are in ca and i just want my son closer to them so hence the desire to move.

Jobs are hard to come by in the bay area right now. Your experience will help and the fact that you already work at a HCA facility. If you get a job in California you will be working in the first and only state in the nation with nurse to patient ratios on all units. Not sure if Good Samaritan Hospital did away with nurses aides when ratios were implemented or not. A co-worker transferred from a hospital in the Central Valley that told the staff they were a "ratio free hospital" I had to laugh at that. Don't think any hospital's have the option of opting out or they all would have. That doesn't mean that in reality all hospitals are always within ratios, sometimes you just can't get the bodies to work. There are other hospitals in the area that might have openings as well. thanks for the info, batmik, are you working with an hca facility right now? could you give me a ballpark figure on the wage or salary for someone with my experience?

i was looking at good sam's webpage and in their career center section was an opening for an RN 2 position. is there a huge diff in wage for different levels? we dont really have levels here in tx, at least not in my hosp right now.

Is it possible to transsfer in the HCA system, keeping your status? It could be a benefit for you.

If you can transfer, you might be ok, otherwise you will have to face the San Jose job market. It is not easy to find work in San Jose.
