Good PRN job for school nurses

Published

Hi,

I’m considering going into school nursing. I worked one year as a 1:1 nurse and subbed in the office. I enjoyed this but the pay was not good. If I end up working as a school nurse again I would probably have to work PRN to make enough money. Which makes me wonder if it’s still worth it to have weekends/evenings/holidays/summers off if you are working another job. What are good options for a PRN position that is not too demanding as a school nurse?

I teach childbirth classes and parenting classes at my local hospital. But you could work prn with a home health agency too. They are always desperate for nurses and you can usually negotiate your hours. The agency I work for is happy if you just pick up 2 shifts a month.

camp Nursing ...2 weeks in beginning of summer, kids go free (super expensive camp to boot) and I get paid...doing now almost 13 yrs..

Free camp for kids sounds like a bonus! I’m curious where these camps are at. Do most of you have to drive far to work at?

Specializes in School nursing.

In the summer, I work a theater summer camp - as its technical director, not at all as nurse. I enjoy not being a nurse for a couple of months in the summer :).

I live in Illinois and go to Pennsylvania to work at a camp in the summer. I have been going for 3 summers.

I originally got the job by posting a profile on https://www.campnursejobs.com/ I was contacted by several camps and went with the one that impressed me the most.

If you start looking for a camp nurse job, make sure you go to a camp that is ACA certified! https://www.acacamps.org/
