Hi everyone!
I am so thankful for a wonderful forum that talks about home care!
I have been a RN for 1.5 years on a med/surg floor and am completely burnt out!!!! I hate my job so much that I get sick/anxious before I even step foot in the door. I have a friend who works in home care and loves it! She used to work in the hospital as well, but started working in home care and now works contingent at the hospital. I'm getting married next weekend, so I will be applying for a home care position at a great company when I come back from my honeymoon. Wish me luck that I will get the job so I can get out of the hospital!!!!!!!!!!!:bowingpur

Hope you like working in home health. For maximum stress relief, ask for a continuous care or shift work position rather than intermittent visits. You will most likely agree that it is the best kept secret in nursing.

That is so funny that you write that carebear because your story sounds exactly the same as mine! I have been a med surg nurse for 1 year, 8 months, and haaaaate it! The doctors are mean, the nurses hate each other, and the patients treat us like waitresses! I am starting home care next month per diem, and then will hopefully do it full time in the fall- I was afraid to make the jump into full time until I was sure I was doing the right thing. In the meantime, I will be pool on my floor, committing to one day a week. I know what you mean about getting sick before I have to work. I actually called out sick for the first time the other day because I had a migraine, and my nurse manager ignored me for the whole day when I came back! Am I in grade school again??! Good luck and let us know how it goes!

Hi Carebear,
You may want to start HH while you still have your hosp job. I am three weeks into HH and love it after OR for 2.5yrs. You may not get a lot of patients at first, therefore, you will not have a lot of income. For this reason, I have accepted a position at an ambulatory surgery center (yahoo) and will work HH one day a week. It really is great because there is so much flexibility in HH. The agency calls me and if the patient is tooooo far away I decline. I don't want to put excessive mileage on my car. Good luck. Keep us all posted.
