This is my first post, but I am so excited because I went to Stanbridge College today in Irvine and absolutely loved everything about it (other than tuition of course! lol) I got all the financial aid stuff taken care of and just need to take the entrance exam on Monday. I will start with the next LVN class Nov. 10th. It is a one year program and they have a lot of great stuff built into the program. I have been going to a CC doing prereqs and was planning to take Micro this fall semester. That would mean I could apply to an RN program in the spring, but wouldn't be able to start anywhere until AT LEAST fall 2009 (highly unlikely to get accepted that soon!), so I am going to do the LVN to Rn route instead. I can't wait to get started!! All the students I saw there seemed to be enjoying themselves and the lab we peeked in on was very nicely set up. :wink2:

There are a number of posts you can find re Stanbridge. From my experience as a VN grad, get everything in WRITING and pay attention to anything administration wants you to sign; take it home and really READ what you are signing. As far as instructors and clnicals...I think the best instructors are gone. What is obvious is the turn around in instructors which makes stressful to focus on what you are actually trying to do. Yes, so far it's 100% NCLEX pass rate but those classes had the cream of instructors (now gone). Example: one instructor did NOT ware gloves when coming in contact with body fluids (blood) Its important to keep in mind that student nurses need to be patient advocates even while in a nursing program. So don't hesitate to speak up for your patient(s) or yourself when you see/experience something inappropriately being done.
There was an obvious shift as students moved through the semesters. The focus was the new students and not always the ones who were at the end of the program. At times it was obvious the graduating classes were the ones in the postage size rooms and at times without a competent instructor.
Because Stanbridge is the "new kid on the block" clinical sites are limited b/c schools like Pacific or Career College have had contracts with sites for years.
Yes they have an awesome lab, I just hope it's utilized more effectively by teh students no matter what semester it is.
If you choose this program, I strongly suggest that your class push for a student body counsel. Students need to have a forum with strength to be heard by administration.
Best of luck no matter where you go. Keep focused on your goal, make your schooling the priority if you choose nursing as your career. Remember at the end of it all someone's mom, dad, sister, brother, child, best friend will be in YOUR care and you MUST know what you are doing.

As a former graduate of Stanbridge, I can tell you the program was challenging, the standards we were held to were very high, the instructors were competent and caring. The school has a reputation for only hiring the best instructors from other schools. The support staff for the Nursing Program is excellent, and their are top of the line online resources available. The school has a 100% pass rate due to the curriculum, the instructors, the quality of the students admitted into the school, and post graduation resources to enable the students to pass their National Exam. The only drawback that I can speak to is that the school has other programs that are not medically related and sometimes they forget that nursing is important too. Good Luck with your program.
Thanks for the reply! I did a lot of research first and Stanbridge seems like a perfect fit for me. It is also a big plus that the hours work perfectly with my husband's schedule, so we won't have any child care issues.
When did you graduate? Would you consider going back for the LVN-RN program they are trying to start? Also, what were the clinical sites? The admissions rep told me but I have since forgotten! Thanks again for the positive response. I am so excited to start in November.

Hi BLS_2002,
I've been searching this forum for the same reason as yourself & i am so glad to have met another student starting at Stanbridge in November. I totally understand the childcare issue and I second you on the schedule works well with hubby's schedule as well. Feel free to pm me and wish everyone luck, take care! =)

i am currently going to Stanbride College in Full Time Term 2. Term1 teacher is the best teacher ever. Not only is she great with studies, teaching, notes, etc. but she is also someone you can talk to and go to for help one on one. I am 22 married and have a 1yr old boy and a 2 yr old boy. THAT is tough itself and added FULL TIME student. I agree with some of the posts there are some problems with the administrative staff, but as for the instructors I have had so far, they have spoken out for the students, especially her. I also attended Pacific College couple years ago before dropping out due to my 2nd pregnancy and other reasons, and when i went to Stanbridge College i saw a major difference. Not only the 100% passing rate, but also the materials available to us as well as study materials and internet access. For the same price, actually cheaper at Stanbridge than Pacific, my tuition included an updated PDA Palm Drug Guide, numerous updated highly qualified books, Dell Laptop (not so updated but good enough for school work and internet) and more that Pacific didn't provide. At Pacific each class had to schedule when to use their test lab. At stanbridge each student desk has a laptop and we take the test the day our isntructor schedules it. No need to wait for the Test Lab and wait for other classes to finish testing. I recommend Stanbridge for the great things they offer and for the great teachers ive had so far. The admin staff could do better with providing their already students with attention, but other than that Stanbridge is good to go.
Thanks for your comments & insight, again, I praise everyone on their own choices and to do what's best for each individual. It's good to hear positive feedback from a current student and stand by my/our decision. Best wishes and good luck to you too, as I know you have your hands full with your family, as I do too!

I signed up for Stanbridge College, but ended up leaving after two weeks.
It seemed like they were really disorganized and I had two teachers in two weeks. Neither teacher seemed to know the material. After talking with two students who had been there for awhile, I decided to leave.
I ended up going to Pacific College. That was a great decision on my part.
I would highly recommend the college to anyone who wants a great education and wants to be totally prepared to take the State Board exam.

What are the costs of the programs (Stanbridge and Pacific)?

I think Stanbridge is now at least $30,000? Pacific is $26,900. I read on the previous post that Stanbridge gives a lot of "free" things with enrollment. Add it up...a cheap laptop and a few books. That doesn't do the same thing for me as a college that has a longgggg history (1993) and a good reputation with the State Board that Pacific has. They have had many people graduate and do well and pass the first time! Stability is soooo important. Stanbridge may look good, but it just doesn't have the long term record. I'm a Pacific advocate. It has been good for my career....... as well as many people that I have known from there.
I wanted to add another point here. You need to find out how many people took the State Board VS how many passed. Any college could have a 100% pass rate if they are new and haven't had many people take the test!!!!
Pacific College students have been taking the test for years.:twocents:
