Hi there.
I am 26 years old male nurse from Lettland and i am very interested of working as a nurse in USA. Is it possible for me,to get a nurses job in USA? People used to told me,that nurses from overseas are not welcomed in USA. If someone has some ideas or some person who I can contact about this, just hit me a message.

*** America is full of foreign nurses. You have two things to acomplish. First you must obtain a visa that will allow you to work here. Contact the American embassy for directions. Second you must obtain a nursinf license in the state where you wish to work. Each state is different. By the way Americans know Lettland as Latvia. Most will have never heard of Lettland. In fact many will only be vaugly aware that Latvia exsists.
Good luck!

Check out the international forum....in the yellow bar click "world" there you will find a wealth of information
Thanks for your advices.
I didn't knew that americans know the word Latvia. At the moment i am in Belgium, and when i'm saying Latvia, then nobody knows what is that. Every one knows just Lettland :)

That's because most Europeans have heard of other countries and many Americans have heard of only some other countries. For instance, I am from the Netherlands and many Americans I talk with at work have no idea where that is, or think it is part of Scandinavia.

JustBeachyNurse is correct, there are tons of nurses from other country's practicing here in the states. Keep in mind that you may want to start out travel nursing through an American agency as they can set you up with living arrangements until you find somewhere that you want to set down roots in. I would recommend against rural facilities though because you will have a harder time with resources to help and with finding cultural groups to connect to.

I would hope we aren't issue work visas to foreign nurses when we can't even employ every American nurse who would like a job.

Work visas are being issued however H1b isn't used that often for nurses. Immigrant visas are also still being issued however due to retrogression people who are getting their GC have been waiting over 6 years
