I guess I'm mainly posting because I'm looking for some advice/encouragement.
Unfortunately I got hit while riding my motorcycle three weeks after finishing orientation. Thankfully I wasn't too banged up, but because I have to wear a splint for a while/can only do "light duty" I haven't been allowed to return to work for almost two months.
I'm extremely worried about going back to work and remembering absolutely nothing. My biggest fear is putting my patients in harms way because I might miss something vital. I'm aware that I'm supposed to be asking a lot of questions as a new grad but... I have a feeling I'll be spending an exorbitant amount of time doing that.
What can I do at home to prepare for my return and what steps can I do to be the safest nurse for my patients? I've been brushing up on EKG rhythms and meds but I figure that someone with more experience could point out what I should be focusing on.
Possibly relevant background info:
- Am working at a cardiac PCU
- It's a very friendly/supportive environment
- I may return to work by the middle of January or beginning of February depending on what employee health says.
- Precepting for a couple of shifts when I get back is not an option (I've already asked)
Thank you so much for taking the time to read.
