I cannot believe she has a peg and trach. If she is doing so well and improving, it would seem that MD/medical team would want to go public with this finding and take full credit. A brain dead patient brought back would change medicine and the law.

The people on her Facebook page have been posting stories about people coming back to life after being declared brain. I think they are confused.

From the CBS story, the best comment yet. Apparently frozen peas will animate her...

I agree with what they are doing for Jahi but bags of frozen peas placed around her head may reduce the swelling. The swelling needs to reduce. Then after a time, an MRI would show the swelling going down. I want the child to be comfortable. I want people to leave this family in peace. They have rights to love and protect their child. The child is innocent and in need of care. We don't know the hardship and the pain this family is going through. We should not be so harsh, but we should support them. I really hope she could recover. Then she would say thank you for not giving up on me. So don't say ugly comments and degrade this family. I give them 100% morale support. Go team, go.

^^^ And comments like the above make me wonder how some of these people make it in this world with beliefs like that...

I'm following this tragic story from the other side of the world and all I can ask is.... most of this has to be a joke right? My mind can't fathom this whole situation! From the comments about jahi getting well to frozen peas? People couldn't possibly be so stupid, could they?

You'd think once the smell of decomposing flesh overwhelmed the room the family might start to realize that all is not well.

I have this feeling her heart has already stopped beating and family haven't announced it. Just a gut feeling.

The frozen peas has to be a joke. At least I really hope it is.

I doubt it is a joke. It has been my experience dealing with SOME lay people and complex (or sometimes simple) medical issues, that there is a major disconnect regarding what can and can't be done for injuries/to diagnose illness/to cure fatal or chronic illnesses. Trying to convince them that what they are saying is not realistic is exhausting and futile.

This was the banner story splashed across my Yahoo front page this morning, Brain-dead California teen gets surgery at new facility after court fight

So I have again retreated to this thread, a small corner of sanity on the web. The Yahoo story is still terrible reporting--What ever happened to confirming facts before they print? Who are these doctors that inserted the tubes? What is the evidence they exist? Taking Dolan's claim there is a "facility" providing "care" where doctors have "stabilized" Jahi give this whole macabre charade a veneer of scientific respectability. How about then quoting a doctor that says "In a brain dead patient, these would be futile procedures." I have noticed the papers that still have high journalistic standards (NYT) are not touching this story.

At this point, the family and lawyer seems to be part of some grisly fraud and THAT is where the reporting should be going IMHO. Instead, the press is content to act as their bullhorn no doubt for fear of offending.

Even if they found someone some faciity that performed these procedures....it will not change the outcome of this poor unfortunate child. I hope that when her heart finally stops beating that her family finds peace.
