Gift for Nursing Student

My coworker just got accepted to nursing school. Can anyone recommend a gift that we could get for him to celebrate? I was thinking of a stethoscope. I wanted to spend around $50. I figured current nursing students would have some good ideas.

It's a nice thought, but I wouldn't choose a stethoscope. His school may require a certain type. Or he may quickly develop a preference for a certain type and then your money would have been wasted.

You might consider a gift certificate at the school's bookstore, which would almost certainly contain things he will be buying. Or if you know any of his personal preferences, maybe a gift certificate at a local coffee shop, bar, or restaurant -- to encourage him to maintain a life outside of school ... or maybe something to support his physical fitness or healthy lifestyle. Students sometimes neglect their own health as they become a bit obsessed about school.

I also recommend visiting the Men in Nursing thread here and posing your question there. Those guys may have some good suggestions.
