I just found out my clinical rotation will be on a GI Step down unit this semester. What material should I review and understand before stepping foot on the unit?

I would think liver enzymes would be good to review, along with solid abdominal assessment skills. What should the liver border feel like? What does splenomegaly feel like? What do normal bowel sounds sound like? Review verifying NG/PEG placement and administering meds in those. Review the types of feeding/decompression tubes- NG, NJ, PEG, PEJ, dobhoff, etc. Review surgical drains, like JP's.
