I would get the review guide - I think it's by Mary McDonald. I studied that guide and took all of the practice questions in it for months. When it came time for the exam, I was well prepared and scored high. You will see a lot of questions on the exam that come from that book (may be worded differently though).
Good luck!

Where are you taking the NLN exam at? I am going to take it later this year and have been studying from the Mary McDonald book. I have a former classmate who took the exam in June and got 96%. My school only accepts 60 students per semester (Fall and Spring). Hopefully, I will get in as this is my second time taking the NLN becaue my score was low. I wish my school had an actual study group there to help with the NLN exam.
I'm taking it late this month - yikes. I'm taking it at IRSC, Stuart, FL. ...having trouble with the chemistry.... I'm using the nln rn study guide. What do you remember about the test ?
I remember there was a lot of physics on the science. If you create flash cards for that section meaning write down all of the vocabulary words such velocity, periodic motion it's all on the test. The other thing is know prefix, suffix and root words for the vocab part. I was told by someone who took it 4 times to do the reading comprehension first then come back to the vocab since the reading piece takes longer. The math since I am not good at it was hard for me. My overall percentile score was only 67% but the director of nursing told me work to get in the 80% percentile range for the vocab and science portion and make sure to get a least the minimum of 30 in the math. This will help bring up my overall percentile score.
I wish you luck with the test and let me know how it goes. If you have any other questions let me know.

I'll be taking my NLN next month and I'm soooo nervous! I am taking a prep course and studying from the review book. I hope that's enough! Good idea with the flash cards.......I'm all over that idea!
Good luck AndiCany12!

I took the NLN-PAX at Indian River State College in Fort Pierce, Florida on September 9, and I scored a 99th percentile. I used the NLN-PAX study guide, the Kaplan study guide, and (my secret weapon!), a Math Review for Standardized Tests from Cliffs. In my opinion, the NLN-PAX study guide was good, but it needs lots of editing and proofreading to correct typos that often make the questions presented hard or impossible to answer. The NLN-PAX also has a PC disk that only has 160 questions on it, which is not enough, and does not work the same as the test as far as being in discrete units and being timed. The Kaplan guide was OK, but had extra material in it that applied to other Nursing admission tests. The Math Review book was the best, if I had a choice, I would find a similar review book for the science part (chemistry, physics, earth science, A&P, etc.). I applied to the ADN program for January, and am keeping my fingers crossed! If I don't get in, I hope I have another 20 points for the courses I am taking this semester when I apply in March, 2010.
I hope you do well, maybe we will be in the same classes if we both get into the program.

Hi! my exam was Yesterday (sep 12). Im so frustrated . I got the guide book and I studed it for months, Im very good y math, and science. My english was my big nightmare, Im living in US for 4 years and I havent learned to much english as I would like it. I was so nervous about verbal part, and relaxed about math and science. I read to much and even a month ago I started to practice yoga for control the stress and nervous. However, my so sad, the limited time made me more nervous, the questions (math and science) were completly different to the guide book and the worst, they said that the exam had been changed, it would be a pilot so we were who test it for firts time. I would like to have positive mind, but i did not feel good in comparation to my habilities and preparation. Probably the guide that I got was the problem, it was the second edition. I hope you doing very well, dont forget the limit time, and good luck :wink2:
