Getting a job as a new grad

Published

I am filling out an online application. Now I am at the point where it says to put in peer references from a job. I've not had a job in this field before, so what would I write down?

Specializes in Complex pedi to LTC/SA & now a manager.

What about your nursing school instructors/clinical instructors? Any job I've applied to as a new grad specifically requested references from instructors as there is no nursing experience to attest to...

Specializes in no experience.

I am a new grad as well and I got reference letters from my instructors.Call or email your instructors and ask them if they can write a reference letter for u.

i'm a new grad and i just got a job. it's working in urgent care for the local hospital that is part of a faith-based corporation.

the hiring mgr told me there were 14 steps in the lpn job class that i was hired. i figured since i was a new grad w/virtually no nursing experience, i would come in at the bottom of the pay scale.

she typed in my education (i have a bsc in another field), over 20 yrs of non-nursing experience, and a few years medically-related experience, and voila = i came in at step 8! wowzaaaa!

the range for lpn prompt care is $19.35 to $29.76 +/- a few cents. i'm happy!

i will post soon on what it took to get the job in urgent care. i'm still in awe. just got it 2 days ago.

but i will say, that i was diligent as a bird-dog and took my job-hunting very seriously.

i just finished a flu-shot gig w/mollen immunization clinics this week - which incidentally, i heard about first here on allnurses.com.

did about 20 clinics and became a jedi-master at doing im shots in the arm. not that it is brain surgery or anything, but i did very few im shots in ns.

i am extremely grateful to this organization and will do my utmost to justify their confidence and faith in my ability to do the job.
