Getting hired PRN

Published

Hi, this site has always been helpful to me and I am hoping to get some good advice on an inquiry. Without going into a lot of detail I would like to get hired in a hospital or LTC facility but would only work PRN. The question is will these places hire me as a RN for only PRN if I've ONLY had private duty nurse experience for 6 months since my graduation from nursing school. My impression is they won't want to put in resources to hire me unless I am willing to work full/part time and only hire seasoned nurses with hospital experience as PRN.

Thank you for any input. I hope I came across clear in my question.

Typically PRN positions are reserved for nurses with experience, as most require at least 2-3 years, though some may settle for a year. They don't put a lot of time in training nurses hired for PRN as they may only get a couple of days of orientation and will be expected to go out on their own.

Thanks! This confirmed what I was thinking. I appreciate it!
