Getting into a decent nursing school

Hi I just recently graduated high school and I didnt have great grades, I just borderline passed. And I want to be a nurse I'm passionate and willing to put in the effort and time. But due to my grades in high school I'm going to have to began at a community college and rise from there. Is it more difficult to become a nurse and get into a good nursing school if I began from a community college? What should my expectations be realisticlally?

Most nursing programs wont really admit students right out of high school to the program except a rare few colleges. For a BSN most colleges you need to do the prereq courses and then apply to the program. They are so competitive they will not accept anyone under a certain GPA in those courses. Since you didn't do so good in high school you can start your prereqs at a community college and as long as you keep a good GPA (3.5-4.0) you can get admitted to the program. Or you can go to an ADN program where the prereqs usually take about 1-1 1/2 years and might be less competitive to get into than the BSN program. Your high school GPA will not come back to haunt you. Just go to community college, get your grades up, and you will be fine. Since it is so competitive you will want to get as many As as you can. It depends on the nursing school. Of course, there is always going to be that bias on whether or not you attended a university over a community college. I wouldn't worry about getting into a "prestigious" nursing school. Rather, just worry about getting into one. I was a 4.0 student in high school and college is taking every last breath out of me. lol
