hello all, i have a question that i am too afraid to ask of my instructors at school because of the fact that i am still working on my mandatory 5500 question comp review that my school requires before signing off for me to take my state boards.--i finished school in dec 05, but my cup runneth over ya know!!??--lots of personal things going on, but i am a trooper trudging on. anyway, the quest is where is the place that i can go to get my fingerprint check done, i was told by a classmate that we have to pay approx 75 dollars for this and to do it now, because it takes upwards of two weeks for processing. she didnt have the info of the place, though. i think its some where either downtown chicago or in a south sub, any info would be appreciated....thanks:uhoh3:

I dont know if this would work for you or not..
But I moved from PA to TX last year and needed to be fingerprinted for the TX BON. I applied in PA, and got back needed paperwork including my fingerprint cards.
I called a local police station and told them what I needed done, and they did it for me no problem, free of charge.
Would any of your local police stations help you out?

Wow! I wasn't aware that IL required fingerprinting. I guess I'm showing my age :)
When my hubby required fingerprinting for a security clearance at work, he went to the local police department.

I guess it's changed since I took my boards in IL 8 years ago - we got fingerprinted at the N-CLEX testing center a few minutes before we took our boards. If this isn't how it's done anymore, I'd agree that the police station is an excellent choice. You could give them a call or just stop by.

I didn't need the fingerprints when I got my LPN license yeeeears ago. However, when I took RN boards 3 years ago, I went a few blocks away to my local P. D. and had them do the darn things. Told them why I needed them, and they were more than glad to do the job.

PS....What school did you attend?
thank you all so much, i live in walking distance of my local PD, i will definitely check it out asap!! you see the faculty at my school (except for 2 wonderful instructors) are not too informative...suebird, i went to olive-harvey college, a city of chicago community college. no one has an easy time in that RN program!!! but i look at this way it prepares us for the difficulties in the healthcare field!!! and as for fingerprinting, we do have to do it twice, im told, once before we even register for state boards and once minutes before taking the actual exam. so we shall see...i am steadfastly working on my 5500, and i got a hold of kaplan's question trainer, im told it is very much like boards, i hope this is true.......

Hi Chelli,
Recently my latest employer did a fingerprint check for me upon hire and a hit came up...10+ years ago I worked for an industrial ambulance/security company and they took my prints pre-hire so, I know that I am in the system.
Never knew that a school would require it or is the State Board, Professional regulation?

Hello, I know this is probably too late for you by now, but there is a place called arts investigations. I have gone there for all of my jobs that required finger printing. They now have a new location in Jefferson Park. http://www.artsinvestigations.com/

Gompers, nowadays you submit your fingerprints, they run the background check, etc and when you get to the test center they take your picture, scan your fingerprint, take you into the actual test room, scan your fingerprint *again* (as if you could switch places with someone just walking thru the door?!?), and the whole while you're on the computer taking the exam there's a camera filming you and THAT picture is on a monitor with the photo they took earlier. WHEW!! Oh, and they scan your fingerprint each and every time you leave or reenter the room!!
I even had to remove my watch and couldn't take my tic tacs in the room (I had a horrible tickle in my throat and was coughing)....said the sounds were disturbing to those taking the exam. I guess my COUGHING wasn't?!:lol_hitti
