If you seen job postings for a small nursing home of 150 beds total, and they were looking for 2 1st shift charge nurses 2 2nd shift charge nurses and 1 3rd shift charge nurses and 2nd and 3rd shift CNAs at the same time? I can't help but think is something wrong when you see a need for so many charge nurses and CNAs at the same time? It makes me feel like they are all fleeing from a sinking ship or something.

I see multiple postings for the same nursing homes all the time, it's just high turnover in general. Especially it seems the charge nurse position, not a lot of people seem to want that job for long.

Thanks hippydippy.

Maybe the DNS finally had it with bad nurses and has decided to get rid of them all.

Hi mvm2! I'm new to this site and I'm not sure how to leave a new comment on your page. I see you are from Michigan and I am wondering if you could help me. I am studying for my test and I have seen two different ways to do a transfer from bed to wheelchair. The first is just up out of bed into the chair. The other has them stand and then sit into the chair. Do you know which of these is correct? Thanks!

I disagree with you. Sorry

I've seen that happen, that the DON or corporate cleans house. It's also possible the DON knows of pending staff quitting due to school, etc and is preparing ahead, or that a new unit is opening and that more staff are needed. Tons of pssoiblity that includes a potential that it is a not good place to it being a good place and just going thru changes.

also, I do not consider 150 beds to be a small facility, probably a medium or even large, depending on the part of the country you are in. Sometimes a DON/company will re-think staffing and increase it for different acuity. If they added a unit, such as Alzheimers or Rehab, then they would need to increase staff quickly.

Maybe there is new administration.Sometimes when an administrator leaves, the staff follow. This type of mass exodus is much more common than the "cleaning house" theory(no disrespect). Generally DON's don't like to be down that many staff. New adminstration is not always a bad thing either.

The ad described would certainly start me wondering "why?"

IMHO, think that's a natural response.
