The facility I worked at last week has a new QA nurse.... completely clueless when it comes to LTC. Being as I'm agency, I try not to get involved in the politics. In fact, it's one of the great things about agency. Anyway, she is nasty and talks down to everyone. Refuses to help do anything, and keeps reminding everyone that she has "been an RN for 15 years". And I don't mean in a proud of her accomplishments way. But in an "I'm totally better than you way". She yells at the staff, interrupts them halfway thru a sentence, and assumes they're all stupid. But she actually said to an LPN last week who was trying to explain something to her that

"I'm the RN, you're just an LPN, and you have to do what I say"

I could not believe it! Mind you, I've been an RN 10 years myself, before that an LPN, and before that, a CNA. I've met many a RN with that kind of attitude (wrong attitude), but NEVER have I heard one say it! And what the LPN was trying to tell her was completely accurate. I actually told an administrative nurse (who's an acquaintance of mine) that they'd better be careful, they were gonna lose some staff b/c of her. And the reply was "I know, but she's helping with the call schedule"

To all you wonderful LPN's and CNA's, I personally love ya!!!! Being with her all day made me just want to say that ;)

so I thank you for your appreciation of US...

sounds like the nrs I used to work with same attutitude and she had been a nurse for 15 yrs. Please dont tell me you are in Tucson, az.

I believe also that that is the reason hospitals dont really have LPNs at least here is that the Rns dont want to deal with us...

I believe that there are some LPNs that could out nurse some Rns no offense but.....

We are supposed to be working as a team not against each other

Absolutely no offense taken! I meant what I said!!!! I'm still working on my BSN, right now have my ADN, so won't speak for what extra I might learn along the way, but can say all the "hands on nursing" skills I learned I learned in the LPN part of the course. The RN part was a lot of care planning and that sort of stuff. But as every nurse (LPN or RN) knows, you learn all you need to know when you actually start working anyway! We do have LPN's in the hospital here, and they're awesome. Of course there are lousy ones, but there are lousy RN's too. Congrats on your educational goals, and it will make all the difference when you get that RN behind your name that you've been there as a LPN and CNA. Have a great weekend!!!

I would dot her eye. I would clean her clock. He he. Or maybe I would just laugh at her. No..... I know what I would do. I would repeat every last word of every sentence she says, just like a little kid would do, just to bug the sh*& out of her. And then I would be a close talker like on Seinfeld, just stand real close to her with my face real close to hers while she's talking. :lol2:

Sound like one very insecure RN! The kind that delegates like mad to cover up her own inadaquacies!Known a few of them,they are hell to work with and can cause chaos amongst a good team.

:lol2: Oh I would love to work with her...hehe..I would just very casually look at her & say "so"...lol....and also throw in a "not impressed"..... then ask her if she's having a bad day because she seems a little edgy..........see as usual....another company who values the $$$$ more than their good employees ......I bet alot of your co workers will definetly leave if she keeps up being a $**t stirrer .....she sounds like she is a control freak...and probably because her own life is so out of control that she tries to control whomever she can at work......sad.

To the OP,

If I were you I wouldn't put too much focus on this. That RN will eventually self-destruct. If that is the attitude she has towards her peers she's not going to last long at that place, or any other place. As for the disrespectful behavior towards the LPN, well... I agree with Kellie. This nurse obviously has some serious unresolved personal issues. Unfortunately for her, those 15 years of nursing experience that she's boasting about don't really add up to much if she doesn't appreciate that nursing is neither about her nor her experience---its all about teamwork and giving good quality patient care.

Don't be surprised if you find that she actually knows far less about patient care than the LPN she's talking down to.

these types are very easy to unseat....usually they are completely rigid and uncompromising people...and maybe display OCD issues....

These are the types that will completely destabilize when they are on a rant about something, and you come up with something tangental and innocuous...

Like:

she: "I am telling you all...this has to be done THIS WAY!!" "I know what I am talking about!!!" blah blah...

you: "did you know that the male cuttlefish turns blue when he mates with the female?"

Just pick some innane subject, and blather it until she wanders off in a heap...

It works everytime....heheheheh!
