Ideas for a fun celebration for a colleague who is retiring...

Hi folks! this is my first post on this forum, and before I start I just want to thank everyone who has participated in this forum. I find it to be informative, funny, and the topics here are ones that I can absolutely relate to!

And now to get to the meat of the matter; I have a colleague who will be retiring next year, and I am wondering if any of you have any ideas in terms of how to celebrate her retirement. It will most likely be a HUGE dinner get together with at least 50 people attending. I would like this to be a fun/memorable event , and am wondering if anyone has ideas of things we could do... What kinds of things have you done to celebrate a nurse who's about to retire...this person has been nursing in long term care for 40 years, she has a great sense of humor, so we want to send her off with a party she won't forget...any ideas that you have would be greatly appreciated , ( no matter how bizarre) :specs:

Much Love!

Well we had a nurse retire last year at the place I used to work. They took a collection and bought her a gold watch WITHOUT a second hand (no more counting resp and pulse).

When my Grandmother retired from working at the hospital. They had a VERY nice dinner catered in a hotel banquet room. BUT the meal was served on Hospital Dinner trays.

Those are my only ideas. Good luck on the planning.

thank you shammy...I think i'll borrow that dinner tray idea!..lol

If she has a good sense of humor, as you say, here' s a funny nursing t-shirt that she may get a kick out of-

got an idea if she has a great sense of humour.

if you can find an old metal bed pan, cut it in half, paint one half gold, and present it as the "half vast award". say that aloud a few times......you'll get it. :roll

have people write down a few memories of her in a "farewell book".....:)

We had a party that was all mixed tea wear and tea party! No tea cup or service matched and it was wonderful decor!

That is a fun setting, but for the party itself...have the guests all write their funniest stories on an album for her. Or if you have a volunteer quilter in the mix...write a nice thing on a swatch of material with puff paints and have them quilt it!

I personally like the 'roasts' (where everyone pokes fun at the person)...have a podium with people saying funny things and little jokes! Those are a riot!!!!!!!! I have even had pts contribute!

Have fun!!!!!!

How about a video of all of her current and previous coworkers waving goodbye then have every one write their most memorable moment or story to create a memory book. This can be presented at the party.

Hi Everyone! :balloons:

thank you all so much for the fantastic/creative ideas!(

I Love all your ideas, and definitely plan on incorporating them at the party!

All the Best!
