At your LTC are LPN's allowed to draw blood from PICC lines? I live in Florida and anytime I have contacted my state board for answering any of my questions I never seem to get a straight answer from them. So please tell me what you do at your LTC. Thanks

In TN LPNs are allowed to (if IV certified) admin med either IV or push, preform dressing changes, flush, & draw blood from piccs/central lines. We are not however allowed to insert or DC a line. LPNs also cannot admin certain medications in TN whether a pheripheral or central line such as chemo drugs, blood or blood products, tocolytics, oxytocins, certain sedatives, anethesias, etc. Look up your states nursing board practice act. It should detail everything premitted there.
