What job position should I apply?

U.S.A. Georgia

Published

I just recently passed the NCLEX-RN. I am residing here in Georgia but I am licensed in California because I took my NCLEX thru the CA BRN. Now, I'd like to apply for Licensure by Endorsement in GA BON but one of the requirements is to have a employment history with 500 hrs or 3 months with job related to nursing except RN position here in GA. I don't have experience yet and I am an international graduate of BSN. I don't have (state) certification to qualify for CNA position. What job position should I apply so I can work out later my Licensure by Endorsement? I need to have a job. Please help me on this. Hope you can give me some insights of this. Thank you very much for any advice.

I know EXACTLY how you feel. I am going through the same thing only difference is that I am an LPN. I am going to get my CNA it will cost $107 for the test and then work my way up from there(I still need to take a refresher course). If you are licensed as an LPN/RN from another state you can get on the registry for GA CNA, you just have to take the written test and the skills test. ALSO, I know for LPN if you apply for GA license within 1 yr from original license you can still be licensed and don't need the 500 hr requirement. It may be the same for RN. I would apply for GA license and they will tell you exactly what you will need to do.

If you are a new grad, you don't need work experience to apply for license by endorsement for GA, as long as it's within the past 3 years I think?? I believe that's the time window. I graduated in Dec. 08 no work experience as a RN at all and I just got my licensed, just leave that part blank on your application. Also Georgia doesn't issue temp license and the earlier you apply the better. It took 7 weeks for me to get my licensed. If you call they would explain to you what exactly you need to do.

You mean, you got your GA-RN license in 7 weeks thru Licensure by Endorsement without indicating work experience? What was required by the GA-BON to you when you applied for Licensure by Endorsement in lieu of that requirement?

Yes, I got my license without indicating work experience by Endorsement. I was confused about that part to because I thought I needed to work in order to get a license in GA but it's a misunderstanding due mostly to how they word it on the application.

Complete your background check(fingerprinting thru GAPS) I live in SC so I drove to GA because it is much easier to go thru their system then trying to do the fingerprinting cards.

Apply and pay fee thru Nursys (if your state does it) for nurse license verification.

Send in official copy of school transcript, application fee, and picture.

On application form where it asked about employment fill out section I ( name, address, etc.) and put recent graduate nurse where it asked about employment.

Ladymarfee, I'm not sure of the exact time line when it comes to new grad, but give them a call Monday morning and I'm sure they will be able to tell you. I'm pretty sure the employment only applies if you only only been out of work or school for at least 3 or more years, but don't quote me on it. I graduated in Dec. 08. I applied for my license end of June and just received it this month (Aug). Good luck on the job search in GA, i've heard it's not good either. When I was a LPN i worked in health department in GA and love it. I left on good terms so i'm hoping to get back there, miss the 8 hour schedule, weekends and holidays off. Also good luck with GABON they are a very thorough and slow, so double check your application before you send it.

Hi quiteone!

I sent a private message to you..just ignore it. I was just trying to reach you after I read your comment.

wow! this is a great news for me! thank you very much for sharing that info here...you make my day...i'm so happy..OK, I will take your advise.

I don't know if Nursys is applicable in the state of California for license verification. I will try to find out here. If not, then my processing might take longer time because of that license verification. Anyway, your info gave me some hope.

Thank you so much.

Hi quiteone!

I was just out of work since my graduation in less than 3 yrs...I hope the GABON will just consider me. I started working for my license last April and finally have it this month. I took it twice before I passed it.

It seems many people here in AN are impatient for the long wait of their endorsed license. I expect I will have the same experience. So, most likely 1-2 months of waiting.

I'll try to call the GABON tomorrow or if not on Monday. I am still waiting for my CA License to arrive next week thru mail.

Thanks again...Congrats and good luck too on your job search here in GA.

:chuckleLOL, I had a long day, oops today is Tuesday...so yes you should give them a called tomorrow not next Monday. They are extremely slow compare to some states, so expect a long wait.
