KSU accelerated RN program Spring 2012

U.S.A. Georgia

Published

Ok, so I've kind of looked around the site, but I can't find what I'm looking for. I applied to the KSU accelerated nursing program for the Spring of 2012. Our applications, TEAS score, etc. already had to be turned in by May 31st. I was curious to know about how long they take to get back to you to let you know if you made it to the second round. I've got a 3.2 GPA right now, and I graduate from UGA in December with a BS in Psychology. I made a 91.3% overall score on the TEAS V. Does anyone have any idea about my chances of getting in? I took the TEAS without even taking A&P at all, but I'm taking it right now. Any advice if I do make it to the second round? I am CPR/First Aid certified and I have my CNA. Also, if anybody needs any advice about the TEAS, I'd be happy to answer some questions and tell you what I thought of it.

Thanks!

nice! thank you....yea i was wondering how far it was from atlanta, seems like the campus is still pretty vibrant and full of a city type feel without feeling rural, because i'm not used the latter. sounds like a happy medium

do you think the decreased amount of hands on experience is crucial? What kind of city would you compare Kennesaw to?

I don't think it is crucial. KSU has several simulation labs that you can practice your skills on. By the time we get to our last semester (positive thinking:bowingpur) we should be comfortable enough to interact with patients. If you are a hands on learner that may get nervous or intimidated by patient contact, then I would practice as much as possible. I have a friend that goes to Georgia Perimeter College and she felt overwhelmed at first because they push hands on skills. She is okay with it now, she just wasn't used to that style of teaching, her comfort zone was in studying a book and taking a test. I am hoping to get a job at a hospital while in school (part-time) since the hospitals offer 12 hr shifts for CNA/PCT's. Therefore I will only have to work 1-2 days a week, and still get valuable experience! And maybe get some tuition reimbursement....LOL :lol2:

Just got spoke with F and it will take 3 more weeks for the interview sign up letters to reach us. More wait. What can I say.... :(

Boooo hooooo! Does this mean that the process is going to take longer? Spring 2011 was able to start signing up around this time last year.....the waiting is going to kill me...lol! I guess I'll just look at it from a positive angle and embrace the extra time to prepare for the interview.

Hello everyone,

Hopefully you all are having as much fun as me waiting for more information from KSU. Has anyone done a mock interview yet? If so how did it go? I have mine tomorrow, but I don't know if I should really prepare for it, or just go in raw and let them critique me.

Hello, good news!

I got a call from Fran earlier today....

Interviews will be the week of September 19th and we should be receiving our letters regarding them in a few days (I think they may have just sent them out).

I'll be doing a interview with them via Skype (yay to saving money!) I'm assuming that same week. I'm so excited and nervous and very glad that we still have plenty of time to prepare! :o

Hi StarLite!

How did you mock interview go? Would love for you to share with us any tips.... :D

I plan on doing one or two myself since I'm so rusty. And also plan on a part-time CNA job. I've looked a few job postings and it looks like they'll hire nursing students even without the experience....yay =)

thanks UGAgal! If anyone else has thoughts, it would be really helpful

hey again dancingnurse!

I'm an out-of stater too so this is a concern of mine was well. But there are a slew of financial aid available to nursing students so I don't think we have to worry too much even if we end up having to get loans. If this is your first bachelor's then you can get help from the goverment through grants and if not, there are scholarships and loan repayment program options. This is a great site to check out: http://www.aacn.nche.edu/education/financialaid.htm

KSU offers a good number of scholarships that I found on their site: https://kennesaw.scholarships.ngwebsolutions.com/ScholarX_ScholarshipSearchResult.aspx (if that doesnt work, try http://www.kennesaw.edu/scholarships/index.shtml and go to scholarship search and go to scholarship search). The deadline has passed for 2011-2012 but 2012-2013 one should open soon. I believe all you have to do is complete one application and the school will match you up for the ones you qualify based on your profile.

Hi Lizyun,

the mock interview went well. I did not really prepare before because I've done a behavior interview before (and got the job). What I would suggest is to literally understand how to answer behavioral based questions. Go to a career website ( like Monster or CareerBuilder) and get examples of these types of questions and write down your answers to questions so that you will have your thoughts together in the event you get nervous during the interview. The questions are pretty standard. Also, there are some threads on AN from previous KSU applicants (I think 2010/2011) that have examples of the questions that were asked. Hope this helps.

Also, I think it is really cool that they are letting you do your interview via skype. I'm sure that saves you a lot so you don't have to come from out of town just for an interview. Good luck!

@lizyun---thanks for the information i'll take a look....the more i look into the program the more i like it...like you said it might in fact be cheaper as an out of state student than going to a private school--so i am going to find out those details as well. Is the cost of living pretty good in the area?

Unfortunately it is my 2nd degree, so i am going for the accelerated program so financial aid in terms of loans will have to be figured out as well. Are you following this path as well?

@Dancingnurse,

I am also pursuing a second degree and doing the accelerated program. I have been looking for scholarships/grants that I could apply for, but a lot are unavailable for students with prior degrees. If you find any, or know of any websites to go to would you mind sharing them. Thankfully, I will be paying in state tuition, but I would like to decrease my out of pocket expenses as much as possible.
