Emory Accepted Students Fall 2011

Hello! I have been accepted to Emory's 2011 BSN program, and I wanted to create a new place for those that have also been accepted to keep in contact as we prepare for the fall. I am also interested in current and past students to offer any vital information that will help make this transition easier. I know this will be a very challenging program and I can only imagine everything I must do to be successful. So all advice and discussion are welcome!

As of now, I am very anxious about financial aid because it is unlikely that I will be able to submit my income tax return by March 15th. What are all my joining class thinking about now that we got the acceptance part out the way?:yelclap:

Has everyone taken statistics? How bad is it? I have statistics and organic chemistry left to take. I know organic chemistry is going to suck because I just barely squeaked by with a B in the regular chemistry class.

Honestly, it's looking like I will pass Organic Chemistry with my very 1st C in college! That's how bad it is.

Statistics was pretty easy for me, though, and I passed with a high A. It didn't feel like a math course and I enjoyed the problem solving and different scenarios without all the fancy numbers or letters.

@claudia617 - Maybe I'm a total nerd, but I really liked organic chemistry. It was not like the first chemistry at all, which was mostly math and lots of equations. I think it really helps if you try to apply what you're learning to everyday life experiences - for example, learning about what trans fats actually are (in chemical form) is more interesting when you think about the foods that you eat. Also, I had a great experience with statistics. As with everything in life, if you go into with a positive attitude, you are sure to do well (but you also have to study a lot). Don't let the stigma attached to these 2 classes even rattle you.

@creece15 - I would also love a copy of your study guide - what a help!

Shiningstar: I was hoping to hear that about Statistics. I've always been pretty good at math and problem solving. Too bad about organic! Hopefully it will get better.

Scout: It is good to hear that organic was completely different, because the first chemistry was horrible. As for having a good attitude, I completely agree--it can make all the difference in the world. As for the studying part, I don't mind as long as it pays off in the end.

I agree with you on that positive attitude, scout678! That makes a huge difference. My teacher does not teach, rather reads off powerpoints with no input whatsoever. I have to teach myself this material. I don't necessarily walk into class smiling about it either. I loved biology and Anatomy, and I did not mind when a teacher did not go over something very well because I enjoyed reading about it myself. Organic Chemistry, though, is another story. Making a good grade is always possible as long as you put in the time and effort.

@claudia - I'm in the middle of organic chem right now, but so far, I'm with Scout, really like it. It is very different than regular chem (and I wasn't a huge fan of that).

And stats I have to take as well, which I am not looking forward to, so it is good to hear others that liked it!

Hey guys!

Do you know which college in Georgia I can take Chem II or Organic in the summer? I do not live in Georgia right now so it is a bit overwhelming with so many schools to choose from.

@creece15 can you please send me your study guide too? I would greatly appreciate it! =)

How are you guys looking about housing? Did anyone find any resonable spacious apartments close to the school?

I'm currently taking Chem 1 at Gwinnett tech. I still have Chem 2, Human growth and devt, and organic Chem. I have to transfer to Georgia Gwinnett college to take organic Chem, US History and Political science during summer. I'm not sure if they transfer from Gwinnett tech and I dont want to take chances. I love Chem 1 just because of the calculations coz it makes my work easy. I'm scared bec I heard Chem 2 is tough. I'm just hoping all will be well.
