U.S.A. Georgia

Hello everyone, i am a New graduate nurse and ive been looking for employment since May (Before i walked across the stage actually). Everywhere i turn i get the door closed in my face.."Oh we're not hiring New Grads right now check back frequently".. yet again i read forums with other new grads getting hired in all the major hospitals as of Sept 2010.

Its really depressing because i really want to get experienced and certified etc but it seems like no one wants to give me a chance. i dont want to regret the four years that i gave up in undergrad and all the vacations i gave up to stay in and study....im really starting to think that it has alot to do with who you know not what you know. if anyone could give some advice or even be of some assistance it would be GREATLY appreciated.

God Bless.....

Can't give you much advise, I am still in school, but I want to tell you not to give up. Call around and ask if they are hiring new grads, if they say no, ask them if they know anyone who is. Most people by nature will want to help you, maybe someone could point you in the right direction!

Good luck and let us know!

Jenn

Specializes in Med-Surg.

I was living in MD when I applied for nurse grad positions and only heard back from places in GA.

All of the interviews I went on in ATL kinda jerked me around. In fact some people have been looking since 2009 and have just found positions.

I eventually took a position in Columbus and I love it.

How far are you willing to go for the job?

Specializes in Labor and Delivery.

I was shooting for the metro Atlanta area but as of right now....I'll take anything

Grady will usually take any warm body with an active license on their med/surg floors.

I saw your other post about applying at CHOA. I've had phone interviews in the past and it means that they'll be forwarding your information to the hiring manager on that particular floor. I'm just a student right now, but was the application at Scottish Rite, Egleston, or Hughes Spalding? Also Emory is an awesome resource for new graduates because it's a teaching institution and they're always looking for fresh faces and people who are eager to learn. I've been at Emory for 5 years and they are actually helping me with school. The website is www.emoryhealthcare.org. Check them out...I'm sure it won't be long before you hear something. You can send me a message and I'll try to see what I can find out with respect to who actually handles nurses and hiring. I really hope this helps and I wish you the best of luck with your journey.:)
