George Washington University ABSN - Fall 2016

Published

Hi all!

I recently applied and was accepted to GWU ABSN program!! I thought I would start a thread so that others who are also looking at applying/have been accepted to the Fall 2016 cohort have a place to talk.

I look forward to meeting some of you very soon!

HI! I also was accepted last week to the fall 2016 absn cohort at GWU! I'm super excited and didn't think I would get in! Do you think you will for sure be going their in the fall?

I felt the same way! Yes, I am pretty certain that I will be joining the program. How about you?

Did you apply for the W2 program?

I'm waiting for a couple closer programs but if I get the w2 i might be strongly inclined :) are you applying for the w2?

Yeah I applied for it! My interview is scheduled for February 20th. Have you scheduled yours yet?

Yeah mine is the 20th also! I'm a little concerned, another applicant on a different forum said the job isn't guaranteed at the end of the program but you get an interview - I guess we will learn more at the interview! I'm trying to stay optimistic, GW is a great school and honestly all of the programs I'm applying for except csun in SoCal are pretty expensive. Where will you be coming from? I'm currently in Northern California

Hey guys! I was accepted too. I'm really hoping to get into some of the other schools I applied to that are closer to home, but GWU is a solid choice regardless. I'm also from Northern California and I applied for the W2 program too. My interview is scheduled for Feb 6th so I'll let you guys know how it goes!

Hello!

I graduated GWU's accelerated BSN program in May 2014. I'd be happy to answer any questions that you guys have! (I do this every semester :)) Just trying to spread my knowledge, as I jumped into this without knowing anything about the program, and wish I had had any information from former students.

Feel free to message me!

Thanks Mindylane! A couple quick questions - where did you move from to go to GW? Were you accepted at other programs as well? Did you have any problems finding housing/roommates? Also, did you find you were prepared for the NKLEX?

It's awesome that former students like yourself make themselves available like this for eager new students can get advice, your help is so appreciated!

Hello!

My boyfriend at the time (husband now :)) and I moved to Leesburg from Long Island, NY. Leesburg is one town over from Ashburn, where the campus is, so about 15-20 minutes away. We found roommates pretty easily through craigslist (we lived with another couple for the first year, and several afterwards) but met a lot of really not lovely people that we had as roommates subsequently... I know before the semester starts, there's a roommate-finding board that GWU does to help students. Rents here are pretty astronomical, but didn't surprise us as native New Yorkers, haha. Two bedrooms go for about $1400+ out in Loudoun County.

I felt very prepared for the NCLEX. I finished my test in 45 minutes and only had 75 questions and I found it actually easy. GWU prepared my pretty well. There are always complaints of "disorganization," but that seems to go for every program, so I didn't find that it detracted from the experience.

I could go on and on, but there ya go. Let me know if there's anything else you want to know :)

Awesome info! I spent 7 years in San Francisco so sadly 1400 for a 2 bdrm is cheap for me :) But paying that while in school and not working will be hard! Did you find that there was any time to work? I'm hoping to get a serving job and just do 1-2 shifts a week to make some extra cash but I've heard that its crazy to try and work. Thanks again for the help! So appreciated!

Haha, yeah, so you get it with the rent thing, haha. Same thing in NY.

They strongly discourage you from working and honestly there's really very little time to work and I was fortunate that my husband was working full-time, but I was able to babysit regularly; I'd say about 10-15 hours per week. Over the summers, I was a personal care assistant and worked 20+ hours. It wasn't too bad, but there weren't too many people who worked at all during the program.
