George Washington ABSN Spring 2014

Published

Hi guys!

Congratulations to all that were accepted already! :yes:I know the application deadline is 10/1, but I received my email last week. My prereqs were finished August 15th. I am excited and at the same time nervous about leaving work and starting school full-time. I heard that there will be about 55-60 students in our cohort.

I love Virginia/DC and the fact the GWU is a great school makes it even more surreal. I am awaiting the orientation date, but hopefully will visit before then. I am from the NYC area and look forward to meeting everyone!! I was actually also accepted to a school upstate NY, (12 month program starting in Jan as well) but the winter months are brutal!!

Did anyone look into housing yet? I've heard that VA/DC/MD traffic is among the top worst in the country. Let's get to know one another. Best of Luck to everyone!

Congratulations on your acceptance! I'm not applying there for another year, but I visited about 2 years ago and just wanted to say try to go with public transport if you can. Georgetown isn't on the metro line, but I think some busses go there. It's also walkable from other areas. I remember walking there from Foggy Bottom (GWU area), and I think you could walk across the bridge from Rosslyn in Arlington, too. There are metro stops in both of those places, so if you can live on the line (orange, maybe?) that goes there you could get off there and walk or take a bus. Much easier than trying to drive!

You're confusing Georgetown Nursing with George Washington Nursing. GWU NURSING is nowhere near Foggy Bottom, it is in Loudon VA.

Whoops, sorry, brain fart.

Apparently there is a free shuttle bus to the GWU Loudon campus from Falls Church Metro. So if you can live on the metro line that goes there, you could avoid some traffic.

Hey there! I also recently found out I was accepted and am very excited. Not sure about housing...I live about 20 minutes away from the campus. Traffic is really bad around here!

I recently submitted my application my application late September. I was curious how long did it take for the admissions to send back a response and was it via email?

I am also coming from Minnesota, so not sure what I'll do about housing, but hopefully will get that figure once a decision is made.

Hi!

I was recently accepted for spring 2014 also. I'm a little confused as to where the campus is and where people are living around there/is there a metro close by etc.

I think the closest metro stop is probably West Falls Church, on the orange line. (here's a link to the campus' website: The George Washington University Virginia Science and Technology Campus: Home Page). You'd have to take a bus from there. (unless you're planning on driving, of course.)

I'm not there yet (Fall 2014 hopeful), but I'm a little OCD and do a lot of internet searches. Hah. Apparently there's a shuttle, free for GWU students, that goes from the WFC metro stop to campus in about half an hour, and another one that goes from the Foggy Bottom campus in about an hour. Here's the link for those: The George Washington University Virginia Science and Technology Campus: Shuttles

My husband and I are moving to the area in April, and we're hoping to live in West Falls Church, in the cheapest apartment we can find. That way we're near the metro so I can get the free shuttle to campus, and he can take the metro into DC for work.

My cousin is actually in the fall cohort and she says the shuttle will not get you to class in time if you have a class at 8am. Also some of the clinic sites are not accessible by public transit.

Congrats!

My application was verified (meaning they received everything including my transcript) around the end of August. I have not received a decision yet & am getting pretty nervous! I was informed that my application is currently being reviewed by the Admissions Committee. I feel I have very a solid educational and professional background and hoping that will get me in! Upon application, 4/6 of my preqreqs had been completed. I am currently taking the last 2.

Do you guys have any idea what type of GPA/professional experience/etc they want for those admitted?? I am trying to get a feel for whether or not I will be accepted.

Is anyone else still waiting for a decision??

Thanks!

Huh. Well, that's no good. What's the point of a school-sponsored shuttle if it won't even get you to early classes on time? Clinical sites, ok fine, there are a lot of possible locations. But classes...

Although does your cousin take the shuttle from Foggy Bottom or from WFC? Because according to the schedule (which obviously could be wrong), the first shuttle bus from WFC leaves at 6:15. That and the 6:45 (again, THEORETICALLY, according to their schedule online) will get you there in time. The 7:25 will supposedly get you there at 7:55, so it depends on your definition of on-time. :p

The Foggy Bottom shuttle doesn't even start until almost 10am, apparently (aka useless).

I'm not going to have a car, so I had better get this figured out! Ugh.
