ABSN Programs: NYC or WI?

Hi! I have already posted my post on reddit and received only a few comments. I figured I try here to see if more people have any advice/suggestions :)

I am a career changer who is going into nursing and have been accepted into two ABSN programs recently. As per the title, one is in NYC, which is where I am from, and one is in WI.

I am interested in further education such as going to a DNP program maybe in the future. I know you generally need ICU experience for that, so I would like to work in a critical care unit either as a new grad or after a year of working at a different unit.

I have heard about how horrendous the job market is for nurses in NYC, and I am worried about not being to find a job after graduating. I am also worried about potentially not getting an ICU role even after many years at another unit.

Therefore, I am trying to see if going out of state for my ABSN and working there afterwards may align better with my goals, but I also do not have a great idea of how saturated the market is in WI.

If anyone has any insight, I would love to hear it! The NYC is a little cheaper, but I have support systems at both places

Pursuing BSN in The Philippines as a second degree (as a foreigner, non-US citizen)

I heard a lot of good things about Filipino nursing programs and how easier it's to transition with them to western countries (specifically USA and Canada). I'm just trying to get some plans for the future based on my past. I have an MS in Leadership that I thought I would use as an English teacher but clearly I'm not since I'm in nursing school so I plan to use in nursing but I'm not sure how. I know I could go for a MSN or NP or CRNA but those are pricy and I don't think I'd make a good NP or even nurse educator. However, I love doing research and I do want to be an advocate for students. I wanted to eventually become a Nursing School Dean so student and not go through what I went through. However, I realize I'm not the right personality for it. My own nurse manager in neuro med surg called me "weird and strange", not that I'm not a little different but that's what makes me good at communicating with patients who are sensitive or scared. Literally all of my compliments from being a PCT are "thank you for listening to me and making me laugh" or "thank you for helping me calm down when I was scared" or "thank you for holding my hand and singing to me while my arm got set in place" (Neuro Med Surg, Peds ED and ED Psych). Anyway, some direction would be very appreciated on how I can best use my skills.

Sorry every one this is my first post, I'm currently in my second semester of nursing program and finals week is coming up quick. My gf of 6 years left me two months ago and I'm still feeling it as if it just happened I haven't been able to study and all my assignments have been subpar at best. I even thought about quitting, everything I have done to this point has been for us and it hard to switch my mindset to it being for my future. After getting home from work she just told me she was moving back in with her mom becuase I wasn't doing enough, I wasn't taking her out much and apparently I didn't like going to the gym with her. That I let the relationship die. I begged for her to stay and asked if there was some one else and she had said no. I have so much regret at this point becuase maybe she is right I could have done more but I priotized school and work. The worst part for me was the next day after the breakup I seen her with a guy at the gym and I remember that it was the same person I had seen prior to the breakup I questioned her but I had so much trust in her I just believed he was no one. Come to find out she moved on with this person yet I still tried for a whole month asking for another chance I finally was able to stop but it takes so much for me to not contact her any more. At this point I'm just lost I have no drive, we had plans to get married and have kids. But I guess this whole time she was all ready moving on and I just never noticed. Even with the holidays coming up it's been rough I haven't studied since the breakup,. And I don't even know how I'm going to get through my finals. Even now I can't get out of bed and even if I do I just think about her and that guy being together. I blame myself so much I should have done more.. it's just hard knowing she has completely moved on and is happy while I feel stuck and alone. I'm sorry for the long post I just wish I had my focus back I was doing so good in the beginning and now it feels like it's all falling apart

	Hello,

I am currently enrolled in a well-known Texas Family Nurse Practitioner program and am exploring the possibility of transferring to a program that provides structured clinical placement support.

I am located in the DFW metroplex and have encountered significant challenges securing preceptors without paying out-of-pocket. I am nearly finished with the didactic portion of my program, and my clinical rotations are scheduled to begin this Summer.

I recently spoke with Baylor and learned that they are unable to consider my application due to my Bachelor of Science in Nursing being completed through Western Governors University. I earned my Associate Degree in Nursing from a local community college, where I was valedictorian, and I currently maintain a 4.0 GPA in my current program.

I am looking for recommendations for FNP or Doctor of Nursing Practice programs that:
• Assist with clinical placements
• Accept Bachelor of Science in Nursing degrees from Western Governors University
• Have a strong reputation and support system for students

Any insight or personal experience would be greatly appreciated.

	Thank you in advance.

	Hey everyone,

I'm a nursing student currently doing my clinical placement and I'm struggling with something specific – I'm hoping to get some tips from people who've been through it.

My problem is conceptual thinking. I know the theory (salutogenesis, validation, Kitwood, biographical work etc.) but when I'm actually on the ward I can't connect it to what I'm doing in the moment. I think too abstractly and struggle to come up with concrete examples on the spot.

My placement is assessed through observation in daily practice – so I need to show my theoretical knowledge through how I act and reflect, not through an exam.

How did you train yourself to think from practice FIRST and theory second? Any tips for bridging that gap in the moment?

	Thanks ?

I was just making a post to see if any nurse has connections or availability to do mental health preceptorship in the Bay Area? I am currently in a ELMSN program 4/6 semesters and trying to plan ahead. I can also can go as far as Sacramento if there is availability. Please message me or reply directly to this forum if you have any availability.

	I am 1st year student

During my first-year placement, I was administering medication to an elderly patient. The medication had been prepared and checked by the nurse in charge. All medicines were initially placed in one pot; however, the nurse then realised that one medication needed to be administered later at 10:00am. She separated this medication into another pot and placed it in the patient's cupboard near the bedside, without locking it. She informed the patient that this medication should be taken at 10:00am.

I was present during this interaction. I confirmed the patient's full name and date of birth before administering the earlier medications. The patient had full capacity and demonstrated good knowledge of her medications. I had been allocated to this bay several times previously and was familiar with the patient.

At 10:00am, the patient reminded me that she had medication due at that time. As the medication had already been prepared and checked by the registered nurse, and it had been kept in the cupboard in front of both of us, I believed it was appropriate to administer it. I did not seek further confirmation from the nurse before giving the medication. was that my mistake huge or it can be reflected as pt has no harm?

Hello, I'm a first-year student currently in my second semester. We've been given an assignment to make a presentation of the NANDA domains (my group was assigned Domains 4-6), but I have no idea how to research. All our instructor said was to find a nursing journal as reference. I've tried online, but all I see are research papers I frankly have no idea how to read.

We're supposed to find cases that relate to the classes under the domains (e.g. Domain 4 - Class 1. Sleep/rest) and then explain why they fit in that category.

Is there anyone who has done something similar? I'm so lost about this.

	Hope someone can help :(
