So, anyone else feeling like it's going to take 4 weeks just to get back into NS mode? I'm so thrown by this semester for all my classes....(all 2 of them)....

I got to class T morning to find out that my seminar course is ONLY over community nursing this semester....No tests, no quizzes, ONLY grades are a written portfolio (consisting of: TOC, page discussion of nursing legislative issue to learn about at Student nurse political action day, summary of what we learn from other students' presentations, 1 page discussion of 2 articles related to legislation, participation in college's health fair and summary of what you did.) and a presentation you do to the class over some community health issue (my partner and I had no choice and are stuck doing children's health).

So then theory class....they CHANGED my clinical! Now I do peds at the hospital 45 mins away, instead of med surg...which is at the hospital 5 mins from my house...I guess that works for winter mornings!

We got about 3" stack of papers, then jumped right into IV therapy....WHOA, how bout an hour of down time...just 1...plus running low on demo times, extra paperwork, etc....

I'm just run down from 3 nights of work and need to recharge tonight/tomorrow...I'm popping on a movie 2 night and saying no more NS til morning....

Dear locolorenzo22 -

I have not been accepted into nursing school yet, so I cannot tell you that I understand what you are going through. I see that you read my post from earlier today about my financial situation & my chain being yanked at my new job (thank you, by the way, for your response!). Therefore, you know that I've been down lately & have had a zillion things running through my mind, as I'm sure you can relate to for what you are saying in this post. Just remember to breathe for starters! Next, only worry about things you can change - and don't worry so much as come up with a reasonable solution. Remember that you can only do your best. I'm sorry to hear that this semester isn't what you were expecting it to be, but you will survive it if you want to survive it. You have lots of support on this website, so reach out to your cyber friends as often as you need to. You will learn lots (some boring, some exciting), but there is a reason that everything happens. Make the best of it! My thoughts are with you.

I struggled organizationally throughout school. I think it's key to get organized if you can. (I've struggled with organization for 15-16 years. At this point, I am just hoping to be a *little* behind instead of a lot. :D)

you are lucky ducky- my second semester consisted of Peds, OR, Outpatient( clinical rotations AND papers on each one of them) and TEN theory tests.. it seemed like every week there was a test./

Second semester was the hardest one.

Good luck, enjoy that movie, it might be the last one you see till Spring bReak!

BTW- did you like Brother Odd??? :)

Our second semester was rough as well. We had Pharm, Psych I, Med/Surg I and Geriatrics. Sadly, the new curriculum our school is required to use (The state standardized nursing curriculum and now all schools have the same 5 courses for the clinical nursing components.) doesn't include a separate Geriatrics class. With the aging population in the hospital, geriatric-specific curriculum is helpful in preparing the student for what they will really be dealing with.

It stinks that they changed your clinical site and type on you last minute like that.I am locked into what classes I will take until graduation and I like knowing what I am taking next so I can try to prepare myself psychologically. I have clinical issues, but at least I knew what and where.

Thanks for replies everyone....

I'm trying to get organized tomorrow and staying on top of things...however I did write a paper last night for April so....I guess I'm ahead of the game....LOL.

Moon- Yeah, I did like it, although for a while I wasn't sure what the heck the apparitions were supposed to be. I imagine that there's more to come after walking through the desert, etc...but at least Frank's now back from the void. I read them all through xmas break...read about a book a day...cause I knew I wouldn't read anything but ns texts until summer!!!

perhaps, but why introduce frank only to kill him off with odd in 1 book? but 5 would seem a good closing number for Odd to reunite with Stormy.....

Too bad I won't read it until summer if it comes out before then........

Well today was the first day of my 2nd semester. Which consists of going to school on MWF for my theory classes (good old 7 quizes and a final that counts twice) along with tuesday and thursday labs until clincals start in early Feb. which generally last most of the day. Then when clinicals start we have two rotations of five cinicals a piece, with one OR and one Home Health day in either or rotation. One mega careplan only if we make a 90 or better on it, if not then two of those. Then four condensed care plans, two per rotation. And so many other things that I think that my head is going to fly off.

So I must say I feel your pain and hope that you can get through it. I live off what we call our day by days. They are a calender that's easily made in word that shows every lecture, lab, clinical, test, quiz, and breathe that I'll take over the next few months. It really helps me keep organized. It tells me what times I do what and when I have time to take breaks, and when I have to study. It really helps to have everything mapped out, especially since I have a family and kids and all that wonderful stuff.

Well good luck to you.

Kim

me too!

Frank- someone to keep him company since Elvis is gone, but, man, I am going to miss Elvis, it was wildly entertaining. I dont know how much time Odd has left, but I think it will be interesting when he does go, hopefully it will be written in detail.
