When is it OK to call off clinical?

Ok, so I have been sick the last day and half with what I am pretty sure is strep throat - exact same symptoms as the last time I had a confirmed case.

I have clinical tommorow AM on a med surg unit. Is this something to call off for? I am worried about transmitting this to people who are already not feeling so hot. We are only allowed clinical miss, and anything after that puts our spot in the program in serious jeopardy.

So, I would like to go so I still have that "just in case" miss in my pocket. BUT, am I too contagious to be around sick people? I will got to the doctor tommorow to confirm my strep and will be able to secure a note either way.

I am just wondering what other people would do in my case?

thanks

The pts. are in the hospital because they are sick. They are compromised enough. Last thing they need to be around is strep.

I would call off, but that's just me.

I'd call your instructor. You may be able to waer a mask and be ok.

I'd take a miss for the same reasons Marie said. I think your CI would understand and prefer you didn't come in. I'm glad you're going to the doc, strep is miserable. I hope you feel better soon.

Call your instructor and see what he/she says. If we miss any day Lecture or clinical we have to make it up, but its better to ask your instructor what you should do NOW, then wait until the morning of clinical

:yeahthat:

Thanks guys for your responses... I just called my CI and she said not to come in.

Unless I feel better when I get up tommorow. Which I hope is the case, because I sure don't feel well at all.

Just make sure you get to the doctor. I always know before the culture even come back positive for strep, that it's strep.

Definately check it out and see if you need an antibiotic. Hope you feel better!

if you think you have strep, you need to see your doctor and have it treated. ask your doctor what she/he thinks about going to clinical, and if she advises a miss, ask for a note. having a doctor's note may help preserve your position in the program.
