What type of bag for books?

I am starting in August, and was wondering if anyone could give me some advice on what type of bag to buy. Will I need a seperate one for clinicals? Do you think a Jansport bookbag is big enough? I saw a few bags the other day but none of them seemed large enough:o

You're smart to think carefully before buying... I bought three before I finally got one of those big (really big) ugly backpacks on wheels. Yes... I know... I didn't want to do it. I told myself that carrying all of those books will be good exercise. Unfortunately, it's a long hike from student parking to the nursing school building. By the end of the second week everyone in my class had traded in their regular backpacks for the dreaded "wheely bag". As for clinicals - yes, the majority of students in my class do have a separate bag for that. Most of use a canvas tote for our clinical supplies.

I had to experiement with several bags before I found one that worked for me. Had I to do it over again, would have settled for one on wheels, because alot of the books are huge and heavy. Did use a backpack the last couple of semesters, that was better than a tote bag or one of those more office looking black ones with the shoulder strap for me. Hope you find what you are looking for. Good luck! You sound so excited, I hope it all goes well for you!

When I was in cosmetology school years ago, we had so much equipment and books to carry that the best way was one (or two!) of those rubbermaid storage boxes and a wheeled luggage rack with bungee cords. What a sight we all were at the beginning and end of each day!

I hope it doesn't come to that in surgical tech school LOL

I too have one of the dreaded bag-on-wheels for lecture. At times it is still not big enough. This semester it is working out well, as we have one peds on Tuesday and OB on Thursday. I don't have to bring everything everyday. Also I have stopped bringing my books to class. The instructor lectures from her own notes handed out at the beginning of the semester. For clinical, I have a tote bag my sister-in-law made me out of old scrubs. Very cute!

When I am working on a care plan, I do bring my wheely bag to clinical.

The one bag that I have and LOVE for nursing school and clinicals is called "The Ultimate Nursing Bag" (haha). They come in blue, silver, pink, and some other color too I think. It has seperate compartments for your stethoscope, tape, and supplies. Private message me for where I got it or do a search for it on the internet because last time I recommended this bag I got a warning for "advertisement" when I mentioned the website. :smackingf

Lilnurse I PMed ya.

I haven't started yet but I have seen some people use those suitcase on rollers. You know the smaller ones, there a bit bigger than a bookcase on wheels, but they don't look as horrendous. They have different compartments and even a compartment for laptops, pdas, and such. I am thinking of getting one of those. My school is not on a large campus so only nursing students there so I couldn't care less of what another student thinks ;). More than likely they will look at us for our fashion faux paux outfits then are bags anyways.

I absolutely recommend getting a bag on wheels for class. Nursing books are way too heavy to lug back and forth any other way. Trust me, your back will appreciate it! For clinicals, I used a different, smaller bag just large enough to carry my clipboard, drug book, skills book, stethoscope, and misc. stuff. Good luck to you!

I have a wonderful solution -- don't bring your books to class. :) I don't bring my books to class (unless I am doing a study group afterword, but then I only bring those books that I need). I have seen a few students in our class bring ALL of their textbooks to class with them.. never made much sense to me because our classes our on split up over a few days.. I guess unless they are brining them all to study in the library afterword.

I would personally rather come home and have all my books on hand rather than bringining them all to and from school.

I have a regular backpack that I take to class and labs, but am thinking about buying a small rolling tote for clinicals. I have looked at the scrapbooking totes that someone suggested, and they are really kinda neat. Thanks to whoever made that suggestion!!

Wheel bags are awesome, I swore I wouldn't do it either, but that was before I saw how big the Med/Surg book was, it was bigger than pharm & fundamentals put together plus te peds book we used as well for my clinical stuff I bought a really cute hat box from family dollar, I think it was 3 or 4$ and my BP cuff, stethescope, hat and all pens & stuff like that fit right in it so I always know where things are for what day
