I know there are tons of ways to organize ways but other than regular outlines I don't know how to do or use the other ways. Can everyone share their methods please?

In New Zealand we use powerpoints, on blackboard system, however now we have changed to a similar system, called Moodle. So that is alot easier for me. Also for handout sheets and notes i personally take. I have a book for each subject, that i paste handouts in, my own notes, and anything else i want to put in it. I have one for each paper, and I take it onto clinical with me. Its really handy to refer back to. Especially for terms etc. Oh i also use text language to take short notes

depends on the class, some classes i don't write down much at all, we have powerpoint slides. Mostly everything is in the slides.
Other classes anything and everything said in class is free game for the tests, and a lot of the time, what's said in class is more important then what's on the slides!! So you write as fast as you can, and listen!!
After the first test, and what you hear from other students about the course you quickly figure out what kind of note taking skills you need to use...lol!!

Well, for me it is easy.....I READ THE CHAPTERS BEFORE CLASS...which is essential, then print powerpoints from the professor and when I go to class, I focus only on the concepts I either couldn't recall from reading or just plain didn't understand in the reading. Now it gets me a refresher of everything (due to the powerpoints) and gives me the information that I really need to focus on instead of trying to shove everything down my throat right before a test.

Unfortunately I don't write super fast. It could also be do to my carpal tunnel syndrome. SO i suggest recording the lecture. You can't go wrong. On your way home to work or when ever. Especially if you have kids or cooking. Pop the recorder and get at least 30min of lecture while cooking dinner. What ever works right?LOL

I would say about 90% of my class did not read chapters before lecture and then were amazed at the few who knew what was being talked about and asked appropriate questions! of course some of these same students were scrambling to pass at the end of the year.

I'm going to try and retype/reread my notes when I get home this next semester--I havent done it in the past because our lecture are 3-4 hrs long, so when we get done, I can't stand to look at the lectures the same day--but I am going to change my strategy!

thanks for the congrats kuku and sorry about your "gram". Good luck to you and hope she feels better soon.
I did teh reading for the first semester of nursing school and that was it, but I graduated with honors and scored a 1049 on HESI, so not everyone has to do the reading. I hate reading.

I had a tendency to leave a large margin of space between what the instructor stated and my own questions to ask the next day. Also, I always went home to re-write my notes at the end of the day, using red pen and yellow highlighters (for some reason, it made my notes stand out better).
