VA VALOR Interview

I'm interviewing next week for the VA VALOR program as a student nurse. Has anyone participted in this program? Is it basically a job interview, where they will ask job interview-like questions? Should I bring a copy of my nursing school portfolio, or is that superfluous? I'm interested in hearing anyone's experience with this program! Thanks in advance!

I would bring two copies of your resume, cover letter, and maybe clinical instructor evals if you have them. I would expect a lot of situational questions and questions about nursing school and clinical. For example, when was a time that you felt uncomfortable at clinical and how did you deal with it? Also, it may help to have an idea of what units you are interested in, why do you specifically want to work at the VA, etc.

I interviewed for this program last week!! I brought copies on my letter of recs and resume, but they said my application packet was all they needed. But i would still bring them if i were you. It was a panel interview with 4 nurse managers. Similar to any job interview, they had about 10 set questions they took turns asking and they wrote down my response. The questions seemed to focus on leadership experience, prior job experience and why I chose the VA. overall, definitely not a hard interview, but I know each VA runs their VALOR program differently. Just smile and be yourself!! Goodluck!
