Okay I started a new case manager job today. On interveiw they said I would be making around 38k which I could live with. I find out today at orientation I will be making 19,000 year for a full time job working about 50 hours a week! I think someone is ripping me off. I know other places pay their case managers 40 to 45.......

I still have two other offers and I want to just quit and tell them to stick their crappy job.

Hubby is mad at me and says I should have gotten a better offer. I told him they told me the 38k and he says I need to do something. I don't want to look like a clod but I am getting severly ripped off-don't you think??????

renerian

yes...especially if they promised you 38k. I agree with your husband...do something. You will look more like a sucker than clod if you don't! hee! Sell yourself. Be confident and strong. They will back down. If the first message isn't clear to them, give them a second and a third. Good luck. I am sorry that happened to you. There is a big difference in 38k and 19... (((renerian)))

Thanks Kitty.................I am worth alot more than 19k with 16 years experience!

Not only are you worth more than that, but the whole point is that they told you ONE thing, and now are telling you another !

I would be asking them what other little surprises lie ahead... and how are you to have any confidence in them as employers if they aren't consistent with their statements and offers. One's salary is not a light matter... surely they have better sense than to think they can toy with you on that ! I'd certainly be asking them to clarify.. and explain the reasoning behind the change of salary ! If it's not what you want, WALK ! That's BS. There's always Target ! :D

Thank Jnette for responding. I can see why people leave the profession......

I had asked them to please stick with what they originally quoted me on salary. they said that is the best they can do. GRRRRRRR.

Tomarrow I am 90% sure I will go elsewhere and tell them exactly why......

renerian

Thanks both of you for responding.

renerian

you should go elsewhere! if i'm not mistaken, mcdonald's employees (full time) make that much in a year!

i'm stunned! they quoted you one salary then gave you another?! that's just plain stupid on their part cause now they are gonna lose an excellent case manager. :D

Thanks Rena.........I would have worked really hard for the medicaid clients too.............. I love working for the poor.......

I know they are making more money than that..........

Renerian, Frankie here. I feel angry about your situation. Probably not as angry as you do. What kind of case management job? A nurse just transfered from our IV out patient clinic to a case management/discharge planner job in the hospital - she makes $30 per hour. Exempt employee.

1) why is this posted on the student nursing forum?

2) now you know to always "get it in writing" in the future, as any reputable organization will provide anyway, just as a matter of course. In some states, like California, a verbal contract is binding, so if that is the case in your state AND you want to spend your time doing it, you can pursue a lawsuit for breach of contract. Otherwise, hope you like one of your other offers much better AND they aren't dishonest crooks like these people are. IMHO.

(You'll be a clod only IF you stick with these losers.)

$30 sounds much more like it Susan! What a bunch of bull! I make more than 19000 at my current deadend job & Lord knows that ain't enough for that job you're being offered  :chuckle

Good Luck with the job offers! :kiss

for that kind of money, I wouldn't even get OOB in the morning.

Quit, tell them why and tell all your nursing friends, you'll probably hear a lot more of these horror stories about this place. How can they expect honesty from their employees when they offer none themselves. ????
