This is just very unfair, not sure about nursing future

Right now, I am just really bitter about nursing. I failed one course, and was prepared to take it over again. Recently, I discovered that my school has revised one of the nursing courses in the curriculum. It will incorporate the course I failed with the course I passed--so the class will be combined. Which means I will have to retake two courses over again, one I alredy passed. I am very angry, and upset about this. I worked so hard to pass that other course, it was not easy for me, and to discover I have to do it all over again is enough to make me want to quit nursing school all together and pursue something else. I don't even want to think about this because it brings tears to my eyes. It was a very rough semester for me and to have to retake something that I passed (which was not easy for me) is so painful.

I really don't know what to do at this point. Administration has their mind made up. I am too angry to even do it over again.

That sucks!! Is there anyway you could apply for apricot learning assessment for the part of the course you've already passed so that you only had to do course work or assignments for the other portion? If you do have to retake the whole course I would think it would be helpful to you that you'd already passed part of it because you would have a better grasp of the material. That may help you to be successful this time around since you have some prior knowledge of what's expected. Good luck!

I'm not sure if my school offers apricot learning assessment. I can inquire about it on Monday.

I'm not sure if the revised course will even be the same. Might use a different textbook, tests may be different. I am not looking forward to this. Do you know where I can go to file a complaint against the school??

Sorry apricot was an autocorrect compliments of my iPhone!! Should have said prior learning assessment (I blame fat finger syndrome). You could always speak to your program coordinator or the dean about the situation and see if they can offer any sort of advice or direction!

I spoke to the Dean and she said I have to repeat both courses over again. I was hoping there was another source I could contact to complain about this.

I don't think that anyone else can do anything about how a school sets up it's program.Your situation is most unfortunate but you may have to suck it up and do the subjects again.

Have you asked if you could at least have credit for some of the assignments from the course you passed if they are the same as those in the new course? I agree, not much you can do if that is the way the school has set things up (you are just one student; they aren't making this change because of you or to spite you, but they also can't change it back just because of you, either). Might they be able to work with you that much, at least, if the only option is to retake portions of courses you did pass?

Unfortunately, they will not give me credits for the assignments I passed. I'm very discouraged and not sure if I want to continue with nursing at the moment. I have to think long and hard if I want to repeat two courses over again. I don't think I have the strength to do it. I am just too bitter and angry right now

I made it through 2 semesters of an Associate degree RN program and then my husband got transferred to another state. In my new location, my only option was to start all over again in a BSN program. I thought it was going to be AWFUL, because I had stressed and struggled so much the first time, but it turned out not to be so bad. Things made more sense the second time around, and frankly I feel like in the long run I'll be a better nurse for retaking the semesters. Try to look on the bright side, you are getting a second chance at that material. If there is a writing component to your courses, I would definitely ask that they allow you to resubmit the same papers (corrected) though!

I'm still deciding whether I will just drop out or re-do everything all over again. I'm leaning more towards dropping out because I feel that this is just too unfair. I feel like all the hard work I put into passing the first time means literally nothing. It was truly a waste of time and I feel like going into nursing is the worst decision I ever made

It comes down to, do you want to be a nurse? Nursing school is not nursing, and school doesn't last forever. Failing the course just means you didn't master the material well enough the first time. Combining the courses may help you put the content you did learn into better context with what you still need to master. I'm having a little trouble with how "unfair" this is, the school did not do a curriculum change just to drive you out, and there isn't a way to give just you the course material from part of it. It should mean that you come out with a better GPA overall, as you know part of it and have a chance to really master the rest.

Like the others have said, he school didn't do this just to mess you up. You seem to be taking it very personally.
