Student nurses why do we take it?

Okay I have been reading and reading posts from all kinds of people and I just have to ask. Why do we take crap from everyone? It starts in nursing school. We are abused by out teachers. Why do we allow it? What makes us feel that they have the right to belittle us? Is it the grades? I know I am attending college right now. I would never allow a teacher there to make fun of me,call me inferior etc? I see post after post of instructors being mean and cruel to nursing students. Do you feel you have the right to speak up for yourself? Or is there some kind of undercurrent that makes you feel that you have to take it. I know this question may seem weird but it needs to be addressed.I am sure alot of prospective nurses have quit because of this and I hope there is a way to end it, so that all future nurses have the best possible education. I guess I just keep on thinking...hey I am paying for this education, not the other way around? any insights I might be missing? The why's to it all. Is it for fun? I have heard the weed out the unlikely candidates for nurses but i just don't buy it. i have some very amazing people not make it in nursing school. there just has to be more to it than that.

Thanks everyone for your opinions. It is always nice to see anothers point of view.

I wish I could just take the bus to the Parris Island School of Nursing.

I tell you, those folks at Parris Island burned more into my cranium in 11 weeks than any nursing program could hold a candle to. Shave my head and send me to boot camp nursing school, no sweat. PT me and feed me three squares a day. We all have the same clothes. March or double-time to the hospital to learn. No one moans about learning, or they get sent us all sent to the "pit." When the nurse Drill InstructorI has something to teach, all she has to say is "eyeballs" and the 60 of us yell "snap!" Train me to take apart and re-assemble medical equipment blindfolded.

If you don't study your knowledge you get sent to the "pit" and you don't miss many questions when the "pit" is where your going if you answer wrong.

Seriously, you could learn to be a nurse in 11 weeks, I am fully aware of that. But, I will half step with it for 2 years :-(

I totally agree with you, but I put up with it from my teachers too, and let me tell you why. It is that plain and simple fact that they have our very lives in the palms of their hands. They get to judge whether we are prepared enough to pass their courses. All they need find is ONE little things they can say we do not perform well on, and they can fail us in clinical.

SO, until December 3rd, my lips will be permanently imprinted on my instructor's booty.

lol!!

Is that not a shame?

i politely say....the boot camp training idea of nursing school is tempting......

hey.....think the military would give it a shot.......

or how 'bout old ADN nurses entering military advancement nursing education.........

but to become a nurse in 11 weeks.....the procedures, yes, the main conditions, yes.

putting it all together.....no, not necessarily.....

but then again micro could be wrong.....cause I gave up being perfect yesterday.....

micro no bug:-O xxooxxo
