Hi All, I turned in my application packet for LPN classes which start in the Fall of 2007. I am going ahead and taking three of the required courses in the program this semester (the ones you are allowed to take without having been officially admitted to the program). My stomach is tied in knots, I am praying I am accepted into the program. I already have my CNA and my Health Provider CPR . Did any of you start having doubts about becoming a nurse once the wheels were in motion? I have wanted to do this my whole life, I am now 54 and just starting, but at the same time I am so excited!!

Some of my RN friends were very dissapointed I decided to go ahead with the LPN program, but you know what? baby steps is what I believe will help me the most. I'm not even sure I want to be an RN at this time, I don't even know if I will get accepted into the LPN course, they only take 30. I have met all the basic requirements and even went above in some areas. I will be on pins and needles waiting to hear if I get accepted. The deadline for the Fall Semester (2007) is March 1 to turn in your application packets. I hope I didn't turn my in to early. I have been like a witch all week-end with my boys and they have really acted up! UGH! Well thats it for now.

Don't worry about what your friends have to say. This is for you, not them. My mother wanted to be a nurse for years and didn't get to finally go to LPN (actually it was LVN) school until she was in her 50s. After she graduated she worked in ICU and CCU until she practically had to be booted out at the age of 68! So, don't give up the dream, kiddo!

Good luck with your classes. What are you going to be taking?

I will be taking Anatomy, Computer and Pathway to Life - Lifes Journey

Good Luck To you!! I am starting LPN program on Monday as well and I am taking online A&P!!

You will find a sticky thread either on this forum or the Pre-nursing Student Forum with weblinks to a number of good anatomy sites to help you with anatomy. I don't happen to have any links for growth and development which is what I think your Pathway to Life - Lifes Journey class is. There is one website called Bright Futures that does list the normal development skills that children should exhibit at the various ages. However, with your class you will be learning about developmental tasks from birth to death. What trips most up is the pediatric area when it gets integrated into the nursing care later. As for computer, if it's keyboarding its just typing. However, if it's a class on how to use the programs within Word Office (Word, Excel, Access and PowerPoint) you will need to spend some time in the computer lab at school if you don't have these programs on your computer so you can do the work at home.

If you are ever looking for anything specific on the web and can't find a link here on either this or the Nursing Student Assistance Forum, ask! Good luck with your classes!
